Yea, I know, the truth always ends with someone reacting that way.

As a side question related to that area, I was last in that area the week after superstorm Sandy rearranged the landscape. Before the storm hit, all the birds left the area, and I've heard from some who visit there regularly that the birds have not returned in the quantity or variety that were there before Sandy. For those who have been there since, how is the birding?

As others have noted, you won't need a really long lens for the horses. However, for the birds, I'd definitely want one of those 150-600 lenses on a crop-sensor camera. I will be there for a week in May also, and I will rent a long lens for the purpose.

I was there in April two years ago and saw plenty of egrets, both great and snowy. Also great blue herons, little blue herons, tri-colored herons and yellow crested night herons. My biggest surprise was seeing a couple of ibis in flight. I’ve never seen them that far north.

One of my favorite spots. I got a number of good shots of birds - egrets, heron, etc along the streams. I primarily used either a 100-400 Sigma (MC11 adapter) or a 75-300 Sony. I didn't have a great experience photoing the ponies except from a distance, until I went on a boat tour which I'm not sure runs this time of year. I've been out twice with Captain Dan's Boat Tours which are run by a father & son. The weather's been mild - their phone is 757-894-0103. For dining I recommend Bill's Prime Seafood & Steaks on Main Street 757-336-5831 (best make a reservation). Lastly, I've stayed at a couple of places but the best is the Hampton Inn on Chincoteague 757-336-1616; they've won a number of awards within the Hampton Group. I've been warned off seeing the ponies come over to the Fire Company - its extremely crowded I'm told. Good luck and happy shooting.
