I could call it Coot Tartare. Ugh.
Seen this week at Colusa NWR. I rarely have seen eagles there. This particular berm was littered with white feathers to the right, which indicates it is a regular feeding spot for eagles, or just this one. The other birds nearby seemed to know this.

Always pretend you have no idea the food is there.

No eye contact until the predator looks away.

Where is Waldo? Lower left. The gull got one big bite before . . .

the Red-tailed Hawk flew in to claim the remains and too quick for my camera, flew off with the carcass.

But was back in a few minutes to look for further remains (or was it a different hawk?) Very disappointing.

Nice set!! At least the Hawk had the common sense to watch from a distance. Gary
Like in the rest of nature, the BIG Birds eat what and where they want. Nice work, Katy. I'll have to stop by on my next Sparks to SF trip. Betcha the footing is more sanitary at the NWR than the SF Sidewalks.

A very nice series, Katy!

Thanks, Gary! Gulls are really nervy, it seems.

Thanks for looking, Craig. Yes, it is really dry there but it's a great place to see bird dramas if you hit it at a lucky time.
Excellent set, nothing like being in the right place at the right time.
