Camera strap screwed to the base of your camera -- to the lady asking to find -- saw your post earlier but can't find it now.

My advice is to get a strap that attaches to an L frame mounted to the bottom of your camera. I am sending along photos of what I recommend. Optec is a company well worth looking into. The L bracket can be purchased from B&H -- a Neewer bracket is 22.00 and from Amazon 19.99. What I like about the Optec strap is that you can attach it only to the base plate, or to one strap lug and the base plate. I like doing it that way because it doesn't swing so freely, yet rests to the side like you are wanting. Also get the wrist strap and you can easily disconnect the neck strap and attach the wrist strap. This comes in handy when using a tripod where a neck strap can get in the way. Also with an L bracket you can still place your camera on a tripod which you can't do if you screw the neck strap directly into the base of the camera.

Or....like me, I use a Black Rapid sling strap, and have a Black Rapid Arca-Swiss plate on the bottom of my grip, that has a Black Rapid connector built in that flips down (or up) when not using the strap to attach the plate to a tripod with an Arca-Swiss clamp...

Sure if she wants to spend 300.00 + dollars. I'm talking about a basic L - bracket that doesn't have to interface with a 600.00 tripod. I'm talking about a 20.00 bracket, a 24.00 strap, and a 15.00 wrist strap for a total of less than 60.00. While Black Rapid makes a great strap, so does Optec for far less money.

True, the RRS plate is just about equal to the Arca-Swiss for less money but you are still talking 140.00. The woman was looking for a strap to screw into the bottom of her camera so I don't think an expensive L bracket is what she is looking for. I gave her an alternative that would only cost about 60.00.

$300.00 ??? You are a tad off there...

I tried an Optech strap, did not care for it.

The Black Rapid at $65.00 is great, has lasted me thru 4 cameras so far.

My Arca-Swiss clamps cost perhaps $15-20 each, one per tripod.

The Black Rapid Arca-Swiss plate, maybe $40.00.

Of course, you get what you pay for and your mileage may vary.

Sorry, I thought you were using the actual Arca-Swiss plate that sells for 175 to 200. Some people may not like the basic Optec that is just a regular size strap made of a foam padding over nylon strapping, but the heavier strap I showed in the photos is really a great strap for only about 5 or 6 dollars more than the basic one. If you haven't tried that higher quality strap from Optec, you should. Could save you a few $$.

I do not care for the connection method of the Optech, preferring how the BR connects and how the camera carries during use.

My BR strap has long been paid for, like I said, have used it on several cameras over the years now.

You all love the waste money ..all you need is to attach your strap to the single strap lug opposite to the grip and thats it . I use a 30cent fishing swivel ( rated 150 lb) in the triangular ring and another ring on the other end. Than a clasp onto the strap ....Used this for years ..D850 /grip/ flash and 28-300 lens no problem. KISS and EPLS

That approach is not the same - the camera hung by its tripod socket is upside down when resting at your hip, and grabbing it with one hand to bring it into shooting position quickly is very easy (thus the popularity of these kinds of straps). Likewise, when using a heavy telephoto or zoom lens with a tripod collar affixed to it, the BlackRapid style xtrap is attached to the lens itself (the 28-300 obviously does not fall into that category).

Having the camera dangle by its strap lug does not put it in a position that makes it easy to grab without looking.

But, as I stated in the other thread currently about bottom-attaching straps, if the camera's bottom plate is made of plastic rather then metal (the D850 is obviously metal) then there is a possibility of the tripod socket being pullled out of the body while the camera is hanging, leading to a "dropping incident".

To each their own. I'll spend my money where I see fit. Camera plate vs a swivel...not even close to being the same item.

For me I need an arca-swiss mount, but I also don't just want a small mount. I want something that goes across the entire bottom of the camera. Also, the added plate makes it more stable when I set it on a flat surface. It also protects the entire bottom of the camera from scratches. It has more than one mounting point. The little arca-swiss groove also gives my pinky finger a nice place to rest. It also has an an optional L-bracket connection.

What can the swivel do? Swivel.

I usually carry two D850 one with the 28-300 and one with the samyang 14mm..harness over both shoulders ..The swivel stops it getting tangled and it all falls to the hand perfectly .
