Get yourself a good prime wide lens..I just picked up a 24mm 2.8 for just that reason...landscape and interior room shots.

Photomagic,
I own the Canon 10-22 and absolutely love it for landscape and travel photography. It is fast enough to use for architechtural photography both indoors (with flash or steady hand/tripod without flash)and outside. And the landscape shots are practically panoramic without stitching. I obtained the lens this year after pondering the same question you posed and used it 90% of the time on a shoot in Colorado, Wyoming, Nebraska, Kansas and New Mexico. It worked equally well on the wide western landscapes to low-light shaded shots, including close-ups of ancient pueblos. I absolutely guarantee you'll love that lens. And mine is tack sharp. I like it so much I bought one for my son's Canon T2i and he raves about it as well. Hope this helps your decision.

This lens has been around a while a lot of them are on Craigslist or one of the other used equipment sites. I just purchased a used one for 600 bucks was able to put it on my camera try the focusing check wear and tear and hear the focus( not hear). I think I got a great deal it had a filter and hood on it. I like the lense but keep in mind items are very small in it's frame, much different than my 18-135 which I also really like.

I recomend the Tokina 12-24mm. I shoot with the Canon 50D, 40D and 350D. The Tokina 12-24 produces super sharp vibrant photos on all three cameras and is built solid as a rock. Would not trade it - period. Wish you well, whatever your decision and get out there and enjoy your photography.

I like my Tamron 10-24mm. I get good results with it, and it wasn't expensive.

I have both the Tokina 12-24 AND the Canon 15-85.
I've found the 15-85 works for 95% of the shots I want - the rest would be covered by the 12-24 and my Canon 18-200.
The 15-85 is fast becoming my favorite for all but general travel photography.

This is great advice, any of these will fit the bill.
You will find that whichever you buy, you will take 90% of your shots at the very wide end.
On a reduced sensor like yours 10-12mm is magic and 18mm is generally boring.
