The difference between who you are and the photographer you want to be is really just the mirror.
CHG_CANON, those are some really great lines!

Have not seen a lot of comments on the Canon and other mirrorless cameras.
What is the general consensus?
That none of them have mirrors for viewing.
I just swatched from a Canon 5D Mark II to an EOS R. I’m still learning. It was the right decision for me. You will have to make your own choice.
There is no wrong decision. You get to choose.
I have a canon M50 & I like it went from a t6 to the m50 ya it’s kinda basic but it’s small and with the rite lens you can just throw it in you coat pocket efm-22 f/2. and with the adapter I can use my EF lens but lately I have gotten in to using old canon Fl lens and my new favorite is the Helios 442 it takes great pictures I’m still learning but definitely happy with it

I purchased a Nikon Z6 last summer and currently have two Z lenses. Here are my main comments.
1. The autofocus is not as fast as I experienced on the D500.
2. I lLOVE the electronic viewfinder. It shows you what your exposure is going to be.
3. I like the size and the weight, substantially less than the DSLR.
If you are a Nikon user, you will like the Z6. If you are a devotee of any other brand, you will like the Z6.
Go Nikon!

Here are some things that you can do to speed up the autofocus if it's not fast enough for you:
1. Turn the tracking lock-on down to either "0" or "1". If the camera is locked onto a subject and you need to quickly change to another subject, it takes a split second for the camera to re-acquire the focus because with a higher number you have innately told the camera to ignore your desire to change subjects. Normally for soccer or baseball, I keep this number a lot higher and often maxed out, but for basketball or volleyball where the ball's movement can change in a split second, I keep it set on the lower two numbers.
2. If you are tracking fast action, then change to Dynamic AF mode.
3. Set your number of AF focus points to either 9 or 21. This will reduce the number of points that the computer has to choose from, thereby increasing the processing speed because there are fewer points to have to look at and process.
I got my Z6 this Fall for basketball and volleyball, so I have not had a chance to compare it to the D500's AF speed. I can't imagine the D500 being that much faster because this Z6 is pretty fast on acquiring the focus point. However, I'll be digging out the D500 for spring soccer here in North Carolina shortly.
Thank you Tomcat. I’m going to check into your advice later today and make those adjustments.

Shoot...I switched to 100% mirrorless in 2012...well 98% mirrorless as I still shoot the occasional medium format film.
