When I used Canon gear I was not impressed with the one Watson battery I tried. Drained faster than the Canon.

What was the mAh rating on each? Unless you know that, you can't make claims that one is better than the other. Also, while your Watson failure rate was 100%, your sample pool was rather small.

Use both on Nikon D7100/D810 with no problem.

I have the Canon 80D. I only have one Canon battery and would like another battery. The Canon is quite expensive and I will pay it if need be. Anyone have experiences with Watson or Wasabi batteries? Not worth saving 50% if they do not work as well as a real Canon battery. I am asking here as I do not trust reviewers to tell the absolute truth since they are being compensated ...........

Thanks

I use Wasabi batteries in my Sony. They last just as long as the Sony battery.

You buy an expensive camera and put cheap batteries in it. Cheap tires work on a car too! Same logic.

That's interesting... I've never seen a proper Lipo charger that doesn't complete the full recommended charge protocol. Even the chips that control the charge process are built to accommodate a full charge. Charging a lipo happens in 2 stages, first is with a constant current at the (typically) 1C charge rate (ie, a 1000 mah battery will initially charge at 1 amp) and when full voltage is reached (4.2v per cell) the charger switches to constant voltage and slowly ramps down the current until full charge is achieved. According to the cell manufacturers, following that process should result in longest battery life provided the rest of the usage recommendations are followed as well.
That's interesting... I've never seen a proper Lip... (show quote)

Purchased two Ravpower batteries and a charger 2 years ago functioning fine and last longer than OEM batteries due to slightly higher mAh rating. I’ll never buy OEM again.

I have used generic batteries in everything for years. You can buy two batteries with a charger for less than the cost of one name brand battery.

I have done the same thing for years. A sales rep once asked me, "who do you think makes the batteries that Canon puts their name on? Not Canon!"

Wasabi are very good, been using them for years. Their chargers are excellent, small and handy with red / green charge indicator.

I use a couple of Promaster batteries with my 80D. The only issue I have had is where I put my one Canon battery when I use a grip. Occasionally I have problems when the Canon and the Promaster are in the "wrong" order. The "wrong" order seems to change from time to time, but just switching them always works.

Please consider any warranty you may have as well. Though expensive, I always use Canon batteries. I am fairly certain that use of knock-off batteries can void your warranty.

Oh? You're going to tell the manufacturer that you've used after-market batteries? That's thoughtful of you -- because they'd never know otherwise!
