Interesting cell phone sensor uses a different kind of Bayer array

https://www.devicespecifications.com/en/news/1c93d06

The array is called a dual bayer with a white HDR coding array. Array pattern is quite interesting.
Its also got a built in temperature and ambient light sensor. Both are highly useful in noise reduction. The claim is that this array type will provide equal or better sensitivity as the quad bayer array without any reduction in the MP count. Scaling this up to full frame might have some challenges - mostly with the lithography and foundry processes. Programming the demosaicing process also could present some challenges. Should be interesting.

While I'm on the subject of sensors I tried to get the specs. for the Nikon camera the Sony Exmor IMX309. Couldn't find much of anything attributable to either Nikon or Sony as far as technical data is concerned. Which is unusual, normally I can get at the data sheets for the sensor which contain all kinds of useful information on what the sensor can do and how to get the data off of the sensor and into the camera (at least to me). Nikon and Sony (and every other camera maker) have a complex relationship. Nikon makes chip making equipment - in particular die making equipment. [This line of business is so reliably profitable that it could hold the camera co. up indefinitely.]. Its definitely a Nikon design, probably with Sony engineers contracted to Nikon, maybe not. Supposedly Sony will be able to independently market it in a year. That could also be interesting.

Sony makes the sensors for most all cell phones and Nikon buys sensors from Sony.
