It is worth noting that turning off your Windows 10 computer does NOT result in a complete reload of all drivers, programs, etc., unless you have disabled the Fast Startup feature.

A Restart on the other hand does force the OS to delete all drivers, etc., and to reload all drivers, etc.

So if you have installed a program and want a clean sheet restart, then 'restart' the computer, not shut it down.

That's what the tech explained also.

Back-up media. All your software install files, along with sign-in credentials and serial number, belong there for recovery, just like your documents, images, etc.

I did that. Unfortunately, they were lost in the mess. Back-ups are only as good as the hardware they're on!

OK, that's unfortunate. Hopefully, you'll implement a new strategy with better protection going forward, something secure and disconnected from the primary computer.

Well, I just got off a 1-1/2 hour "chat" in which they downloaded new .exe files to me (and they are sending me these files in an e-mail so that I can save them again. But both programs are updated and working.

The link I had gotten previously from CHG_CANON doesn't work any more. They only have links for current and immediately preceeding versions there now. One must GET the updated .exe from a rep.

So, everyone who has these versions, save your update links!

Now if I can just get my SilverFast to work, maybe I'll be back in business! Thanks all!!!!!

Any time you install windows 10 you must check and make sure you have installed all the microsoft updates . Many of the updates are needed to make some programs run correctly and the windows to run smoother . You must run the check for updates a couple of times to make sure up to date . If you didn't do this , it might be one of your problems .Tom's Computer Repair

Might be a prudent move!

A restart after installing 1 program at a time is the best way to go. Check out the program to make sure everything is all good before installing another program. Are you sure the software you are installing is compatible with your operating system?
Best of luck to you with this.

It was actually one of their updates that caused the entire problem. Win 10 will simply stop everything and do a restart and there's nothing (apparently) one can do to stop it. It did that in the middle of transferring files from the C drive to an external. Their process crashed both drives. And the files were lost in the process also. Even when I got my C drive back up and running, it would crash when accessing or installing Intuit programs (and I have to do my taxes!) My guru said there wasn't a fix, but that he would have to start over. The computer was only about 5 months old!

I went back to the guy who sold me the computer. It was actually still under partial warranty!

Well, it was all working before, so I have to assume it's "compatible." And my guru told me the same thing about doing a restart after each one. Thanks for confirming that info.

I had to do that last week, and a Chat with Adobe eventually got me the link, but I can't find it now. Try the links below.

Since you have a new computer why not upgrade to LR Classic and PS 2020!
