Needing to get a little exercise I decided to walk up to the local pub here in town for a beer. A good half mile from where I live. l It was pretty loud with lots of crazy music blaring from the juke box. Rap I think they call it. Thought, just to have a little fun I would mix things up a bit. Played some old Patsy Cline tunes, some Brooks Benton,(rainy night in Georgia) some Eddie Money, etc. Just for giggles I played 28 songs and left. I don't have a problem with younger kids keeping up with the music trends that are in vogue but why does it have to be so graphic and vulgar? Good grief, 10 year old kids nowadays are listening to a vocabulary that would have gotten my mouth washed out with soap.

Needing to get a little exercise I decided to walk... (
show quote)
Gotten your mouth washed and getting your BB gun taken away for a week. It is a different world today, mothers do not stay home and raise the rug rats. I could go on but you already know the rest.
Reminds me a piece I hear on radio, a couple of guys walk into the pub and play "Whats new Pussycat" continuously for 25 times.
Consider yourself a lucky guy.
Here in Brazil, I would be kicked off
on the second song.
I have a 17 yo son whose musical appreciation
floats with his brain waves. He can go from
Cat Stevens to some rap/Brazilian "funk"
that are simply disgusting.
We used to have lots of time in our hands,
all they have is a cell phone and lots of time.
Your comments speak volumes! What will the world we live in now be like in twenty years? I remember when I was on leave from the Navy and dad and I were just having a friendly fireside chat late in the evening when my much younger sister stormed in asking dad for some money, orange hair all spiked up, way to short of a mini skirt, most of her boobs hanging out and dad saying NO and adding, Lordy Lordy girl, what will your kids have to do to amaze you. She says, dad you need to catch up with the times. First time I ever saw dad look so sad. It does make me wonder what will the future will be like when her children are her age. Will moral integrity be a thing of the past?
. Will moral integrity be a thing of the past?[/quote]
I think it already is
Sad to say that there is graffiti on the walls of Pompeii saying much the same thing,
about the morals of the younger generation. We have been in decline for a very long time.
But I have to agree that RAP plumbs new depths !?
Seem to remember our parents did not appreciate Elvis or Rock n Roll but most of us grew up OK!?
As for the music----
where is Sinatra, Como,Clooney??!!
LenT
TV is not any different - can't believe some of the programs!

I still can't stand the smell of "Ivory" soap
If they call it rap, it isn’t music.

I think every generation expresses these thoughts about the younger generations as evidenced by your comments about Pompei. Which leads me to ask: Did the perfect generation we all seem to think we’ve deteriorated from ever exist? If it did it must have been pretty boring🤪
The past is always seen as being utopia if you are white and or have money. For a lot of others, today is a helluva lot better. Well, that is, until they run into some modern day Nazis.

I was with you until you said, white. Why is it that some of you seem to think every single minority person on the planet or at least in America was treated with cruelty, racism and lack of money? I see many blacks, Hispanics, and other races who are my age, 73 and had wonderful childhoods. I also know a number of people I grew up with who are still white after all these years who had nothing yet were still happy and grew up just fine with an appreciation of America and the opportunities it offers. Nothing in the Declaration of Independence or the U.S. Constitution states these opportunities or freedoms are available ONLY to white people.
Look at the America we have now. We have had a black POTUS, blacks are all over the map in politics (even in the Deep South), businesses, sports, education and so on. Comments like yours are what keeps racism flourishing year to year. Why can't you put racism behind us rather than keep pointing out what happened 50 years ago? Jobs are available right now to just about anyone who wants one. Please don't continue blaming whitey for some people that are minorities who also refuse to work for a living as the rest of us do.

Dennis[/Excuse me. “...some people that are minorities who also refuse to work for a living as the rest of us do.”. .. the rest of us???
