Roses can lead to interesting results:

“I once had a rose named after me and I was very flattered. But I was not pleased to read the description in the catalogue: no good in a bed, but fine up against a wall.”
Eleanor Roosevelt

Whilst it may be a beautiful rose, this image is not doing it justice. I think it would have worked better if you had also captured a portion of the centre in focus.

Cindy that is a beautiful rose! It looks perfect.

Nice job with the shallow DOF and darker background.

I have shot roses and other flowers, they are more difficult subjects than meets the eye. Color saturation can be a problem, background brightness can be a problem. I find that slight under exposure works better for me. Soft light accentuates the gentle beauty of flowers. However there are good creative opportunities to be had for more dramatic images, using early morning or late evening sunlight. Some people like leaving a little room above the flower, it can lead to a more pleasing composition.

Keep shooting and thank you for sharing!

Grahame I beg to differ with you about that.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and there are many ways to display beauty. There was a period when soft focus was the "the thing". Now for many "the thing" is ultra sharp. I say to heck with "the thing". It's your art, do what you like.
