I would recommend the newer "VC" version, its a much better lens.

You want the A009 model, NOT the older A001 model.

I'm using the Sony Alpha mount version & couldn't be happier. It will close focus to 3' at 200mm making it great for closeup shots that aren't quite that close. It's especially great for low light work but, I do recommend a monopod.

I traded in a Canon 70-300 that I wasn't using and bought the Tamron, I couldn't be happier!

I have the Nikon version of this lens and I hate it because it makes all of the other lenses I have look like garbage. Aside from the limits on range 70-200 I would use it for everything. Now eyeing the 24-70 tamron. Definitely get the vc version...

I use one on my Nikon W/O the VC and love it. There is a real old model and then there is the newer version which is much clearer than their old one. Not sure about Canon cameras but does your camera need an in lens focus motor?? Thought only Nikon needed the in lens focus motor??

Just checked at B&H and the non-VC are on sale for $749 so if it's the non-VC it's in line. The VC model is double the price and not worth an extra $700 IMO...........

I have a sony a9 and shoot the tamron 28-70 f 2.8 and love it and now with the sony 4 adapter the tamron f 2.8 70-200. Very close to the Nikon pro lenses I shot on my D4 nikon. More than serviceable at half the price.
