Dennis, ever so sadly true. Whatever happened to the time when an immigrant would come through Ellis Island with only the clothes on his back and a bit of change in his pocket and build a life for himself and his family?

Isn't it strange how those ethics of hard work to get to a goal has changed to "You work hard so that I can have my goal".

Of course those were not the best of times for there was much heartache and misery then however we are (should be) much smarter than that now and not everyone has to resort to backbreaking labor to survive.

What those times did create with the ethic of working hard to get ahead was have children that became part of what has been called "The Greatest Generation". I wonder how history will refer to today's teenagers and young adults. Will the majority of them join to fight the terrorists that will surely come to our nation to devour it or will they cower and accept it as their new way of life. I hope that there are still bomb and fallout shelters out there...I may need one soon.
Dennis, ever so sadly true. Whatever happened to ... (show quote)

My guess is that people who love America will fight to preserve our great nation while those who claim to be patriots and at the same time mourn the loss of an enemy who has instrumented the murder of our own American servicemen as well as others around the globe will be the first ones to cling to the enemy in order to stay alive to cower another day.

If every single American would stand proudly with President Trump to cheer at the death of General Soleimani it would show such resolve on the part of Americans to stand firm in our desire for freedom that I truly believe the Iranians would back down. They would realize that America is truly not a nation they will ever dominate. But instead we have a nation of cowards and Liberal Democrats who so hate President Trump that they would rather see America fall than to stand up proudly for their own country.

But, in order to climb, there has to be a ladder/rope for them to climb.

Chris I am not totally against welfare. There are some people who truly need government assistance to live. Give them that assistance. But consider that amount of people is contrasted by millions of people who are in just as good a condition to work as you or I have ever been. They are not sick but more like lazy. I think it is in 37 states that welfare payments are more than minimum wage. Many Americans feel they should not have to work if the government will give them the same amount of money for not working. Now please tell me what you would like done to ensure these people are forced off the welfare rolls and into jobs. At least can we agree they should be on welfare for let's say one year and then are booted off never to return. If someone can't find a job in a year they just are not looking.

As for the ladder and rope I don't necessarily disagree but do realize there are people out there that will build their own ladder to get up on that roof.

IMHO, most of the immigrants are willing to work hard.
Look who's picking our crops from the fields.

The more immediate problem is the generation...our childrens children, who think Mom & Dad will take care of them forever so they don't have towrk...period.

Chris when I was about 14 years old my brothers and I helped my aunt pick vegetables for sale in her upstate NY farm. Right next to us was my aunt's own children and also were migrant workers who would come to America, follow the growing seasons to gain employment and then go back to Mexico to their own country and family. I suspect that this happens still all across America in that Americans are also picking some of the fruits and vegetables in those fields. What has changed is that the migrant workers, completely against American law, are now refusing to go back to their own country. Not only that but they are not just picking the crops but are taking jobs away from others here in America that deserve those jobs, the whites, blacks and Hispanics that are citizens and who deserve the opportunity to work to feed their own families.

I have no problem whatsoever with Democrats but I do have a problem with Democrats that assist illegal aliens in coming across our border, Democrats who want to give seemingly unlimited assistance to illegal aliens in the form of housing, jobs, higher education and so on while our own American citizens must pay for those things.

Dennis, how soon so many forget; "I pledge allegiance to my Flag and the Republic for which it stands,
one nation, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all." This is the Original Pledge of Allegiance which has changed wording over time.

Regardless of the version recited, "One Nation, Indivisible" is the most important part of being a nation. That's why I so strongly believe that liking the President of the United States or not, we owe our allegiance to the nation and all that it stands for. This is the very reason we have no monarchy. No Pharo, No Supreme Leader, No professed God, No life long dictator. Just a four year term with the possibility, but not a guarantee, of another four year term. A far less than perfect system although the best in the world today. Congressmen and Senators can, and most often do, hold their seats for decades. THEY are more responsible for policies than any President. THEY write the laws and THEY pass the laws that affect all of us including establishing the Nations Budget. The President alone have very little power other than an Executive Order which any single Federal Judge can squash. If I were asked if I believed that the President was an egotistical jackass, I would say "absolutely"....however he is MY and YOUR President and I stand behind that and cast my vote at the next election.

We agree on so much here.

I recognize that we all possess different qualities and abilities.
Not everyone can build there own ladder to more power to the one's who can.

People who are able to work...should work.
However, if the only jobs available are at a non livable wage, I can see where some would choose not to work.

Let's be clear....I do NOT have ALL the answers...AND...there is no 1 answer that solves all of these situations.

We need to get back to having a dialogue about such things and see what and how we can fix things.

People holding political office come and go. Some I like, some I don't.

I am always true and loyal to my country....as I'm sure you are.

I guess this is where I get to make the snide, condescending remark....

I can teach you but I can't learn it for you.
