Trying to decide between the A7R ii and the A7 iii for my first full frame purchase. I won’t need the 42mp on the 7R ii very often but it is about $400 cheaper. Any thoughts/advise, thanks in advance. Jim H.

I have a 2 but decided there was enough of a difference to go with the 3. I just got mine from B&H yesterday and I'm really excited about it.

Rumour has it there's an A7 iv on the way. When it comes out the Mk iii may get significantly cheaper.

I would still recommend the Sony a7s II. Rumors are their might be a III.
I have read about the about the a7III is sounds very good. But I can tell you the a7 changed
visual acquistino for video & stills. It was the Nikon F of today.
The a7s II I have had for a while. It can shoot
video like a movie camera. It does amazing low light and imagery.
You know when you look at a shot or a video clip and it had a visual
look that you like and admire your own work. This camera used with the
55mm zeiss lens is amazing. I put Rokinon video lens on it and it works well.
I just saw this camera on B&H for 2k like the a7sIII. It was originally upwards
in the 3k range. It has become one of those camera's that are favorites for shooters.

Between those two, if you're primary concern is the absolute best image quality at medium to lower ISOs, then the a7r2 is probably your best bet. However, for all around general photography including a great sensor, great high ISO performance, very good AF, etc., I think the a7iii is the better bet.

I have the A7111
I also have a Sony a6500
The 7 series to me is excellent.
My only problem are lenses
I usually use a Nikon 750 and have a wide range of Nikon lenses and for Sony I only have the two kit lenses and the 85 mm I bought for the a7111
I take pictures of shelter animals and as they move around a lot I like the lighter weight of the Sony over the Nikon but hesitate to buy more lenses.

I have the two. Images are excellent but the three has much better image management and buffering. The two is slow to review and zoom in on reviewed shots and has a very limited burst if you are shooting raw.

Great info. I suppose the animal eye focus on the iii helps W/ your photos.

I think I will see if the price drops at all and then purchase the 7iii. Looks like that is the better overall choice
for my needs. Thanks for all the comments.

I found my a7r2 less than perfect in focusing in some situations & upgraded to the a7r3. With the 2 cameras you mention I'd go with the a7iii for it's superior focusing capability.

Where have you been? It did (iv), and they (iii) have.
