Visited Belfair State Park on Monday, December 16, 2019. With an "atmospheric river" of rain coming we thought our dog needed a good walk.
With my trusty D500-Nikkor 200-500 f5.6 in hand I captured a few of the birds on hand. All shots were handheld.
The day was terrible for photography- 44 F with a drizzle/rain of very fine but soaking droplets. Looks look grain in old time photos.
The eagles had just finished a meal of duck- two adults and two fledglings were roosting in a tree near me. The eagles are still wet from the ordeal of catching and eating the duck.
When I turned to shoot the herons, a higher shutter speed was needed. So the "grain" increased as well.
Please download these images. They show much better on your screen.

Thank you for some really enjoyable pictures. I am lucky enough to have been there, and able to go again. Now I will have to make sure to have my camera, and not take the dogs.

I brought my camera because the weather report stated that the sky’s would clear in the P.M. and it had not been out for a bit.
Belfair State Park seems to be a lay-over spot for migratory birds. Was there a few weeks before and noted that the whole area was covered in migratory birds. I noted the small number of birds when I took these shots. The eagles probably put a damper on other activities in the area.
Get out there, take some photos and post them here!
We hope to be there tomorrow, Dec 23, 2019 early afternoon.
