Also used in APS-C cameras, not just FF..my Nikon D500 uses both XQD and SD but the XQD is faster to suit the fast processor..10 frames a second continuous......

Then stick with XQD cards and do not sweat it.

The CF Express cards are SUPPOSED to be the future replacement for XQD. At the moment, for a number of reasons, it it difficult, if not impossible, to find new XQD cards. If you need more cards, CG Express seems the way to go, so it would be beneficial if they were interchangeable. Best of luck.

In 2 seconds I found dozens of places selling XQD cards. Did not look too hard to me.

Really happy for you. Now, try finding Lexar cards. The only reputable ones available at the large camera stores are Sony, which are priced at about 4x what they used to be. Thanks, but no thanks!

According to this article, Lexar stopped making XQD cards a year ago, and it had nothing to do with CFExpress.

Delkin XQD is available now and Nikon branded are coming soon. I believe they are all licensed by Sony, which is the reason for the push to open source CFExpress.

Edit: I did the firmware update on my Z6 and it still works.

You can now use CFexpress cards in Nikon Z cameras via firmware 2.20 released 12/17/19

We are lucky to have him. Folks might have read and believed what you originally said:

Yep have had a Sony and a Lexar XQD card for 3 years and no difference.

Personally not sure what the excitement is about the CFExpress cards. So far the pricing seems almost the same as the XQD cards? And most camera's won't be able to utilize the higher speed of the CFExpress cards (in fact, many seem to question if one even needs the speed of the XQD cards)?

CFExpress is open source. This should allow manufacturers to compete without paying homage to Sony. In the future CFExpress cards could become as ubiquitous as SD is now. Their immediate success, if any, may depend on acceptance by video.

I have had the following DSLR camera bodies, Olympus C2500L, Nikon D70s, D300, D300s D700 and now shooting with a D810. Since 2000 I have not used anything but CF memory and I am very pleased with my decision. CF is reliable, stable and fast (I shoot landscapes). All the consternation about other formats I s just noise in my head.

All of my cameras use sd cards and sd cards only. Reliable, stable and as fast as I need it to be. At this point I wouldn’t even purchase a camera without at least one sd card slot.
