I think it looks pretty good to me.

Hi, Russ;
At first glance I immediately knew the “point of interest” of this image for me! it is the horizontal line of reflection of the woodlands in the upper half and their reflection in the lower half. I perceive an almost 3D effect of the image being folded or creased a bit at that line; the upper half remains vertical, the lower edge being tilted a bit toward me.
And i like the composition with the vertically counterposed angled branches at the right end meeting the line of reflection...almost like an arrow encouraging the viewer to imagine more of interest off to the right.
I do like this image. Very engaging of the imagination. Very artfully accomplished.

First off, I like it. As to a focal point, my eye normally goes first to the center of an image, and this one doesn't fail to draw me in. That center group of trees along with the horizontal thing (dirt?) really pulls me in. All the diagonal stuff around the edges keeps me pulled into the scene.
In graphic art terms the center of interest is the horizontal clump in the upper center of the pic.
The diagonal branches on the left and right are framing the pic.

I like your picture. While some may think its a picture of "nothing" as it does have an obvious point of interest, I think that is its attraction. I feel like it is inviting me into the scene to see what might be found there.
The Mood creates the main feeling -the central trees -for me -are the center of interest-but the somber mood dominates.
Vignette looks fine to me. I see no real horizon as water in small ponds such as this may appear crooked but in reality are not. Trees look as straight as they can be. I too saw the eye-like look and it is framed quite well. You did 👍.
"You're making me dizzy," to quote Tommy Roe.
Looks good to me, as is. Not sure it needs any straightening.

As in this case, sometimes the whole photograph is the center of interest. I had a very wise man, my father, tell me it is not always necessary, or advisable, to follow arbitrary rules. This photo is a case in point. It stands alone as a whole and will be useful as a background as well. JMHO
I am drawn to B&W shots with the lines and angles. Nice one, Russ.

I agree. The image needs straightening. On the whole this is an excellent image of a scene which, in B&W, represents the true abstraction that B&W offers. Good shot. I like it.
It looks like the two larger trees are vertical. If you try to straighten the image, they will be off-vertical but parallel lines. That would make the mage look like it needed straightening.
I like the shot.
Nothing beats luck
Actually, the download is very nice.
Yes, the island in the background is the center of interest. And I like Wanda Krack's suggestion to have a bit of a path in front of the tree grouping to lead the eye into the scene.
