Peak Design has come out with a new travel tripod but, I think it's getting bad reviews.
Peak Design’s travel tripod is a kickstarter that is expected to start shipping in March 2020. Why it’s probably getting bad reviews is because some Chinese companies are using Peak Design’s promotional material and advertising it at $39.95, then they’re actually sending an extremely cheap tripod that I wouldn’t trust to support a cell phone. I knew someone that got scammed, but the fool ordered even after I pointed out that A) the Peak Design tripod wasn’t available yet and B) the price on the Peak Design tripod is $350 for aluminum, $600 for carbon fiber.
A mini tripod the way I know it does not necessarily means a steady platform. I use a cheap Dolica aluminum tripod that I bought for use with my Olympus mirrorless cameras. It cost me $45 and it is my most used tripod but I use good tripod techniques with it.
My other tripods, one of them a Manfrotto aluminum tripod from 1976 has a heavy design and no longer is practical for traveling. Modern aluminum tripods are much better in that respect.
Whatever tripod you buy just make sure it can hold the combined weight of your camera and heavier lens.

Was wondering if anyone has any recommendations for a good sturdy mini tripod for my D7500 ?
Will support D500 + 200-500 mm lens. light and strong Feisol.
Carbon fiber - can be purchased with or without ball head.

I use a Joby Gorilla pod and just acquired a Manfroto Pixie Evo. I shoot with a micro 4/3s so the Joby works well but I wouldn’t recommend it for you. However, I would recommend the Manfroto. At a recent macro class, there were a number of folks using it with d850s with no problem.

For my FF cameras, my table top size tripod that is very small only 8.8” high, I use A Really Right Stuff with their mini ball head. Really Right Stuff TFA-01 Ultra Pocket Pod and BH-25 Pro Ball Head Package They are expensive at $275 from B&H or Adorama but don’t do what I did which was to buy 3 cheap ones that do not work and sit on the shelf. This tripod has limitations on lens size. My smallest travel tripod is a Gitzo GIGT1545T Traveler Series 1 Carbon Fiber Tripod. This is a small Travel tripod that raises to 60” on its center column, 51” without center column but is not for long lenses. If your plan is for longer lenses these are not going to work and heavier bigger tripods from both RRS and Gitzo will be best.

have something similar to this, different brand, works quite well,
Pedco UltraPod II Tabletop Tripod with Mini Ball Head
also google minitripod/hand grip, for lots more, Bob.
I use a benbo trekker to get any angle necessary but it's bulky. You may want to look at a Platypod for low heights with a multitude of settings when attached to a Oben BE-117 Ball Head that has a friction head.
Both can be found at BHphotovideo.com.
I use two devices that, from your post, might be exactly what you would like. The Playpod Max and the Platypod Ultra. Each are used with the same ball head mount - the Oben BE-117. Other ball heads work too but I’ve found this one to be light and sturdy. The Max is larger and holds a longer lens set up. The Ultra is the smaller and works well with anything 200mm or less. They are simply metal plates, very light, nd easily portable. Good luck!
I use one made by Ultrapod. With a DSLR, I make sure the lens mounted is not that heavy. If you are using heavy lenses like a 24-70mmf2.8, then you need a more robust one made by Really Right stuff and other companies. Mine fits into my pocket and does the trick when needed. My model is the ultrapod ii mini tripod.

Tdozier: From my large collection of tripods, the smallest, undestructable but very sturdy and reliable:
Minox Mini Tripod.
You will not find anything smaller than that.
I have been carrying it in my backpack for about 50 years and was surprised to find it - from B&H.
For just $108.
A nice Holiday present.
Merry Christmas.

An old frying pan with a centered block of wood the height you want with a seating bolt glued on its top is as sturdy as you can get and costs almost nothing. Great for small house cats & dogs, flowers, etc.
