No. I did not have to spend dark hours banging rocks together in the damp grass in order to capture this handsome snipe.
Great shot, not a easy subject to capture.

Not a very rare bird but one, except for a dark blur madly zig-zagging out of sight, that's rarely seen or photographed.

I don't often have the opportunity to appreciate his color and markings up close and in person....

Nice capture. These birds have always looked a bit strange to me. I think it is because their eyes are relatively way too far back on the side of the head. Good shot!

Neither do I, and sightings such as these really add enjoyment and great memories
Take care!

We used to have Wilson’s as regular visitors at the Oka Lane ponds in Los Gatos CA. I remember telling some folks I met on the path about them. East Coast transplants who gave me an “Oh sure.” response. They evidently had some experience with chilly, late-night, summer camp rock banging.
Snipes are fun to catch. Nice!

Banging rocks together won't help unless you also have a pillow case propped open with a stick, and a flashlight inside, turned on, and aiming outward. THEN, you can click your ticks and get your snipe!!!

Rock banging was not limited to the chilly, late night east. At the age of twelve, I was sent into the night to bag snipes in northern New Mexico. I was precisely as successful as all the other snipe hunters.
