Cold and grey, stay inside to play. This is a beetle provided by Bill (newtoyou) for one of my focus stacking sessions. The setup that I used for this session is pictured below.
The lens is a reversed 50mm enlarger lens connected to a reversed mounted Raynox DCR-150 magnifying lens. These two lenses attached to each other are mounted on 150mm of extension tubes which are connected to the camera.
The camera is mounted on a digital motorized focus rail controlled via a laptop computer along with all of the camera functions including Live View. The focus rail is programed to move the camera in 20-micron increments, stop, take a shot, move, stop, take a shot...on and on until complete.
The specimen is staged on a sliding work table for X & Y axis movement and on a laboratory scissor jack for the Z axis elevation. Illumination is constant with two LED and two fiber optic lamp heads. An overturned translucent drink cup with a 'mouse hole' cut out for the camera to view into is wrapped with a white paper towel to create soft surrounding light. A piece of black velvet is adhered to the back inside of the cup to create the black background.
Thanks in advance to all those who view and for your comments, suggestions, questions and critique.
