Antelope Canyon is Shutting Down Its Photo Tours Due to Overcrowding and Negative Reviews

Interesting comment Bob. If you weren't going to photograph anything that had been photographed before, your camera would quickly gather dust!
Some photography is just derivative.

One needs to face the situation that these tours are run as a business. The concept of any business is to maximize profit. Thus, remove those factors that reduce profit.
If I were to take a tour of the canyon, I would not want to bring a camera. What am I going to photograph that hasn't been photographed already?

Every hour of every day the lighting is different due to the change in suns' position. Many different ways to look at the canyon walls, different focal lengths, distance. I photograph what I see, and in the canyons you are unlikely to see things the same way as others.
Your argument is a good excuse to hang up the camera. And stay home; after all, what are you going to see that hasn't been seen already?

"What am I going to photograph that hasn't been photographed already?" That is the key question, and I salute you for asking it. The answer, of course, is "Nothing." Like too many scenes, Antelope Canyon has become a cliche. I was in a medical building last week, and when I went to take an elevator, there on the wall facing the elevators was a photo--just like every other photo of the scene--of Antelope Canyon. Yeah, it was lovely; but wouldn't we be better off if we took our expensive gear and well-trained minds and searched for something unique?
BTW, I'd offer the same challenge for eagle shooters and garden photographers.
Your comment about seeing an Antelope Canyon picture in a medical building reminds me that when I went there I also visited Rainbow Bend. When I tried to shoot it the sun was directly behind it so all pix were taken shooting right into the sun. I got no decent pix so went back to the motel and took a pic of it in the lobby. Mission accomplished, if I were rmalarz I could scratch this from my bucket list, but someday I will return and get a good pic.
