I'm holding out for the 150MP phone/camera. I demand top quality!

A large amount of MP allows cropping without significant loss of detail. You can create various compositions from the same image. I won't mention super large prints since nearly all of us seldom do this, if ever.

Its not without its down side. Large file tax computers, slowing processing, viewing, and transmitting over the internet. They also require more storage space.

Certain photo genres are hampered by large files. Wedding photography, news and sports are prime examples.

Of course this will change within a few years as 5G becomes ubiquitous and other technology improvements take place.

Its a great time to be a photographer.

Cropping - and simulated telephoto images. But you only need around 10-12 mp for huge images - like billboards, 40x60 and bigger, etc. Also downsampling. An image shot at 108 mp and downsampled to 12 mp will have very little discernible noise, and more than great detail.

Don't expect any more image detail than you would get with a standard 16mp phone camera. What you will get is a lot of useless pixels.

And what is the size of the sensor? I hope it's bigger than a poppy seed.

They'll keep doing it.

Physics should dictate a minimum pixel size. Objects smaller than a wavelength of light cannot be optically resolved. Samsung claims pixel to have developed sensors with 0.7 microns. This is the wavelength of red light (long wavelength light). This would be the absolute limiting resolution with perfect optics and there are no perfect optics. APS-C cameras and micro 4/3 cameras have pixels that are about 4 microns. Some cameras have even larger pixels. Large pixels make for lower noise. A 100 MP in a cellphone seems unnecessary and possibly of no benefit.

A 100 MP medium format camera makes much more sense.
