What do you mean by "official imported from Nikon Italy distributor"?
Sounds like Nikon USA would treat this as a Gray Market camera and may refuse to service it.

thanks for your question , in every country in the world there is an official Nikon Importer , in my case Italy was NItal , this company takes care of all Nikon products bought through his network of retailers , in warranty period and after the warranty period . This is valid also for US market they recognize the official channel of the product also if was purchased outside of US, i am working with Nikon cameras since 1972 (Nikon F2 /F3 ) and i never had some problem with Nikon services because my cameras were bought at Nikon Importer , regards
