I would like to hear everyone's feelings about the Tamron 45mm 1.8 for a Nikon d810. I've been comparing it to the Nikkor 50mm 1.8 . While the nikkor is cheaper it in not weather sealed and does not have VC.I have looked at several reviewas with all the technical stuff but would appreciate some real world down to earth comments/feelings.

I have that lens and use it mostly on my Nikon D750. It has a metal lens barrel and is fully weather sealed. The vibration compensation really helps when hand holding the camera. I like to use it for full length portrait shots. That focal length on a full frame camera gives a perspective close to what the human eye sees.

I have never used the Tamron lens, I am kind of sold on Nikon lenses for my cameras not implying that independent lenses are not there in quality. Today a majority of independent lenses do a great job and some of them are more expensive than the original manufacturer's price.
I have used the Nikon 50mm f1.8 for several years till I found a used, good condition 50mm f1.4 from the early 70's which I had converted to AI mount for use with my cameras. I am very happy with it but I was also very happy with the 50mm f1.8.

I would like to suggest that you try both lenses if at all possible before buying. VR to me is not a necessity in a 50mm lens. Keep the shutter speed beyond 1/60 sec. and I can assure you the images will be tack sharp. We do our part and the lens does its part.
Now, if you are going to be shooting most of the time under severe weather conditions then a lens sealed against the elements is your best bet.

There is a uhh member who has high praise for the Tamron 45mm lens. It has been said that the 50mm prime lens sees what the eyes see. There has been debate, that it really is 43mm. So, the closest to that would be a 45mm prime lens. I own the Nikon 50mm f1.8G lens, Tamron makes good glass. I borrowed a friend's Tamron 90mm f2.8 macro lens for one day for portraits. And I really liked it. Will I be trading in my 50mm f1.8G for the Tamron 45mm lens? I doubt it. I like my 50mm lens. If you shoot in damp weather occasionally, then a weather sealed lens would be practical.

That is a beautiful portrait, CO! Kudos for the pose and composition.

I have the Nikon f1.8D and it's a great lens. I don't know why you'd need VR on such a short lens. Weather sealing? Are you really planning to shoot with it in the rain? Also, if you go Nikon, go with the D. You don't need a motorized lens on your 810. There IS a great difference between f1.8 and f2.8.

I have been told by some here, if you own a Nikon Camera, buy a Nikon Lens, same would go for Canon and other brands too. But each person must decide for themselves.

I have a D810 and use a Nikkor 50mm f/1.4D in many shooting applications. I can see no reason to spend more money on weather sealing or VC. My images are with this combo are very good.

I do own a Nikon 50mm 1.8 G lens. I admit I do not use it all the time but when I do I get fantastic results.
I NEVER take my gear out in the rain or drizzle. If you want to, that is up to you.
You really need to look at the reviews on this lens. And, it is currently on sale.
IMHO, the 35mm 1.8 G is more versatile although at a price point beyond which you may want to go.
