Someone is going to scold me for not searching for an answer. Don't know how.
I have previously tried conversion mounts and been unsatisfied with the results. Yet, I have a Sigma 18-300mm auto focus with an A mount that I would like to use on my 6000.
I am told both Sony and Sigma make an A to E conversion mount.

I am seeking advice:
1. Do the latest versions work?
2. If so, is one better than the other?

You need a Sony LA-EA 3 adapter.
The LA-EA 4 should also work but cost more and is primarily for mechanical screw-drive AF lenses.

You have to check first. Sometimes the LAEA3 doesn't work with certain Sigma lenses.

Look on you tube, there is a guy that explains what to look for in each of the mounts from Sony. It may help you to figure out which one will work on the Sigma lens.

The OP asked about a specific Sigma, it works. The A mount Sigmas that do not work are the same mechanical screw drive system as the Minolta mechanical screw drive lenses. Those type lenses require the LA-EA 4 adaptor.

Sigma adapter is for Sigma EF and some Canon EF lenses. Not A mount. Looks like an Le Ae 4 might be best.

- Get the LAEA-4 for the best AF - it uses the pellicle mirror for part of the AF - do not cheap out !

MT Shooter laid it out for you. If it is a 'modern' Sigma A mount it will interface eletctronically through a LA EA 3 with the camera. No need for the LA EA4 and the mirror. If it has a screw drive focus system you need the LA EA 4

Better AF with the LA EA 4 ! - a GOOD reason to get it !

Cant discuss this aspect as I have never tried a LA EA 4 with the older lenses, didn't want an extra piece of glass in the optical system. Manual focus works well.

Yes, I suppose MANUAL focus WOULD work OK .......the "4" also works with the newer lenses. The pellicle mirror has not been a problem for me but it does absorb 1/2-2/3 stop of light (as used in the SLT series of cameras).

On cameras which have good PDAF, if the lens has a focus motor in it, the LA-EA3 has the potential to work better than the EA4. For the older ones the LA-EA4 tends to perform better. However, given the cost of either adapter, you may be better off with a native e mount lens which with outperform both.

I have the a6000, a99ii (A Mount), a7iii and a7Riii. I use both the LR-EA3 and LR-EA4 on my a6000 as well as a7iii and a7Riii. I also have several A mount Sigma and Minolta and Sony lenses. It all depends on the lens which works best. Generally the LA-EA4 always works. Native E-Mount tend to focus faster than A-mount with the adapter. I don't have a problem working with the extra glass in the LA-EA4. But what the heck, when you are retired you have all the time in the world just no money. So I use all my A-mount lenses rather than spending the $$$$ for E-Mount lenses.
