I had a Casio Exilim several years ago, a great point and shoot. I don’t think they make cameras anymore.
A Sony DSC camera is also excellent, a point and shoot for around $135. If you want to use a very capable but more expensive camera a Sony Rx100 camera is very good.
Good luck, have fun😀

My solution; Go to KEH, select point and shoot cameras. In the box select price ascending. I bought an as-is Nikon S8000 for $8. A pair of batteries and a charger from Amazon for $12 and I've got a perfectly adequate snap shot camera. I can carry it to the hangar and document what work I'm doing and take a shot out the window of my truck just because it's a pretty shot. I can and do use my phone but my old dog mind set is that if you want to take a picture you use a camera.

I picked up a Nikon P5000. What a fun camera. Has all the bells and whistles, EV, viewfinder, hot shoe for speedlight. 10 MP. In its day it was a $500 camera. I picked one up on Ebay under $100, including manuals, S/W, Box, cables, etc. Last summer I spent a week in DC and only took the P5000. Excellent results. Good luck.

That camera sold new for $360, when it was released in 2007. It was considered a high end compact camera in its heyday. With a 3.5X zoom lens. Not a camera to compare to today's standards, IMO. But, as long as you like it. That's all that matters.

I second the S100 suggestion. I had essentially the same camera, an S110. Great camera! The rough equivalent these days would be the G9 X. My S110 died under warranty, and they'd quit making it, didn't have a refurbished one to send me, so they sent me a G9 X. I wanted something more robust, so I sold it to National Camera exchange. In retrospect, it would have been a great camera to keep around the house. Canon has a refurb right now for $350. Great bargain for an "as new" 1" sensor snap camera!

If a camera in a smartphone is not a camera, then how do we take pictures with a smartphone? That’s like claiming that a snapshot is not really a photo.

I have a G16 I’ll sell him. It’s in like new condition, with the original box, two batteries, charger and cable, 16 gb SD card and a wrist strap. Asking $300.00 and I’ll pay the shipping.

Canon Powershot G11, G12 are very nice "old" pocketable models. Big screens, optical viewfinders, standard USB A-Mini B cables, SD cards, and more hand-holdable than teeny little pocket cameras. They have a hot shoe, full manual controls if you want that. You can't go wrong here. Batteries very available.

I have a G11 to supplement my DSLRs. Also a Powershot SX160 IS, an advanced "pocketable" camera, 16 MP, 16X optical zoom, big screen, full manual capability, good size. But no eye-level viewfinder, just the LCD screen. No hot shoe. And it uses AA batteries.

I have a samsung hz10w 10.2 mp 10x zoom with a 2.5 Hoodman rubber banded to the screen. Samsung bought on sale eight years ago $100 Hoodman $74. Sharp at 10x , great depth of field on macro. I have several Canons including an 80D. the Samsung rides in my glovebox always there. The Hoodman keeps glare off the screen and steadies the camera at eye level. Just a realy nice light weight rig. I don't know that I would call any digital compact "vintage," but I really liked the Panasonic Lumix ZS7. It is a 12.1 mpx camera with a 12x lens. I used and abused it for years. It failed temporarily twice after getting doused with salt water in my kayak though came back to life after replacing batteries and drying it off in a bag of rice both times. It kept taking pictures in below zero weather in Russia one winter when my better and more expensive Nikon failed. I have some great shots from it from Turkey. It still works fine though I have moved on. It was by far one of the best small cameras available around 2010 when I bought it. I upgraded it to two newer Panasonic zs cameras, but was not satisfied with the "soft" image quality in either one. When the Sony RX100 came out with the 1" sensor, I switched to Sony because the image quality was so much better than other little cameras, including the ZS7. I only just sold the rx100 original a year or so ago when I got the RX100 vi. I liked the original RX100 a lot better than most of the models that came out between the original and the vi, partly because it had a slightly longer zoom. It was also a workhorse camera. A friend dropped it on a marble floor at Hearst Castle--dinged it some, but didn't affect it. I got caught in a blizzard with it near the top of Mt. Whitney--it survived just fine. It's not really "vintage" but very good.

Look at a Ricoh GR II. The GR III is out, but many prefer the earlier version. Truly pocketable, very fine and large Sensor. Larger than anything I’ve seen in responses to your question. Lots to read about this little beauty.

I can recommend two shirt-pocketable older compact cameras . First is the Sony WX-350, 20mp, 25-500mm zoom. It has a Sony G lens - their best quality for compacts. Widely available on eBay for $80(used)-160(new). Second is Olympus XZ10. 12mp, 26-130 zoom with sharp Olympus lens with fast apertures f1.8-2.7. Harder to find, it goes for $100-150, used. If you don't need the extra zoom range of the Sony the Olympus has a better build quality and user friendly controls. I have owned many compacts over the years (Nikon, Canon, Samsung, Fuji, etc.) and these are the two I have stayed with.

I have a Canon 40x Optical zoom SX720 HS. It is faster than the 50x SX530. Also have a Rebel T 3i.

I prefer the SX720. I dropped my first one and found a new one on the internet for under $300. a year ago.

I just purchased a used Canon G16 and it's a lot of fun. Has so many more presets etc than a phone. Look around and see what you can find.

It depends on what your needs are.

1) Does it need to be pocketable? If so, the Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS50. For a bigger sensor but less tele the Lumix DMC-ZS100 (or the DC-ZS200) might fill the bill
2) Since you stressed the tele ability, how much do you need? If great, a bridge camera like my SX50 HS or Panasonic Lumix DC-FZ80 is called for.

EDIT - I strongly suggest one with some sort of viewfinder since viewing screens can be problematic outdoors in bright sunlight.
