Keep thinking I would like another camera for a backup. With some good sales, maybe. In the back of my mind I am wondering about next year's cameras/ Things are changing fast. With the expected new dslrs and potentially pro mirrorless wondering about jumping the gun. Probably last camera I will get and if the new canon 5d 5 is a big upgrade I might cry. No body wants to see an old fart cry.
My reason for wanting a back up now is I find myself doing more stuff for others (weddings, school stuff ect). A back up with the same controls (think muscle memory) is important.
So anyone else thinking about a new toy?
Good luck. I have a Nikon D500. I love it. Most likely, the last camera I'll buy.
I recommend something you already have. Either the same model, upgrade, or even used. If this is the back up to a 5DIV, a used 5DIV can be found relatively reasonably. You not only get to use the same lenses, you can have a preferred lens on your primary and secondary lens on the back up. IE; a 24-70 and a 70-200.
While the new 5DV, or any camera, may have new features, you have to think about what features your current body is missing. I know photographers turning out great work with 5DIIs

I use a 5d 4 which is why I am thinking about another. I have a 6d as a backup but my grandson keeps "borrowing" it for extended periods. I am actually trying to take a long view. Clean high ISO and mp's of future cameras. Then to the idea of mirrorless is appealing but it just isn't there for me yet.
I figure I will get another 5d 4 if there are some good deals. If not there will be after the new cameras come out.
Just kind of curious what others are thinking. Some else just might be thinking of something I havn't thought of.

Yes. I am trading in my 4 year Audi A8 and picking up a 2020, A8 in three weeks. That's my new toy.

A good backup camera is important, not just for a "job," but for regular photography. I'll sometimes go out with a wide angle on one body and a tele on the other. Sometimes I bring the "less expensive" body, depending on where I'm shooting. Having similar controls is a convenience. BBF on one and not the other will drive you crazy.

If your "Grand" is "hooked" on photography he will never have enough $$$ for drugs or any other trouble.
Sorry, just another lame excuse for humor, grin

Not so much humor as truth. Not just $$$ but many other things that will take priority before drugs. My prayer anyway.
Yeah, I have seen it other places as well. Many rumors floating right now. Which means no body know anything for sure, probably even the ones making the decisions.

I have been using the Sony a9 for about a month now. I like it for static shots, models, etc.
For birds in flight my Nikon's offer a much higher keeper rate.
So, I will use my Nikon's for wildlife and my Sony a9 for landscape.
I use a 77D as a backup to my 5D IV. It's like a miniature 5D control wise. It makes great images but, like all crop frames, struggles some in low light. If I needed a backup for low light, I'd probably look at an RP which would also give me a taste of mirrorless.

I have thought about a mirrorless. Love the new glass coming out. Just hesitant due to them not being quite there yet. Things like dual cards, etc.

I also have a D500 and feel the same way. Never say never, but at this point the D500 will be my last camera.
