I think of it as city in the front yard, cottage in the back.

We bought the vacant lot in 1991, I spent 8 years designing the house and drawing my own blueprints. I had an engineer stamp the drawings, got city approval, and started construction in 1999. I spent the better part of 10 years doing almost everything myself once the concrete foundation was poured. I did framing, brickwork, window/doors, plumbing, heating, electrical, flooring. I hired drywallers because I have sloped ceilings going up 33 feet; then I painted it all. I am just putting a few finishing touches on the deck right now.

And somewhere during that time I also went to work!!!

That's pretty impressive! I do a lot of handy work around the home but I've never built a house up from the foundation, especially electrical work. I try to stay away from sparks. I used to watch the Canadian "Red Green" show for my handy-man tips (just kidding).

I have 3 kayaks and a canoe.

No motor craft allowed on this lake; it is in the middle of the city. Also, no fishing allowed from boats; only from the shoreline. I think our city government is Conservative!!!

The lake is stocked with fish (perch, trout, pike, walleye, carp, bass) and I have several rods... but I don't fish.

The photo is a September sunrise from my bedroom balcony.

Beautiful lake John. I mistakenly thought it belonged to you though. Darn the bad luck. I guess I will not be gracing your presence anytime soon.

Sounds like a beautiful place John. Congratulations on being able to do the work yourself.

We don't have much in common, but I love the Red Green show.

America has been the leader for generations. How did you miss that point?

I will assume you are asking about a Republican who I think would make a better President, because policies and political party aside, ANY of the Democratic candidates would be a "better person" than Trump.

Mitt Romney strikes me as a decent person. He speaks well, he carries himself well, he understands the issues, he has government experience, he is diplomatic, he comes across as honest and caring, and I think he would work hard to heal the rift -- chasm, actually -- between the Left and Right.

The only other potential contender right now that I know of is Joe Walsh. I don't know much about him, but from what I have seen so far he also seems like a "better person" than Trump. I don't know who else might come forward.

I thought highly of Marco Rubio when he was the only Congressman to attend the Stoneman Douglas High School event put on by the students in 2018. He took the flak on the chin courageously and gave the impression that he cared. BTW, ANY of the students who spoke that night were better speakers than DJT.

I also like Adam Kinzinger. He is intelligent, polite and a good speaker.

Unfortunately, a host of good candidates have left the party since Trump was elected. There seems to be a hidden -- or blatantly obvious -- message there.

But while I am at it, I might as well tell you who I would NOT consider suitable.

I had a lot more respect for Lindsay Graham back when he was trashing Trump in the campaign, but he has done a 180 degree turn. He displays his hypocrisy like a peacock in heat by the way he turned on the idea of what impeachment is all about, by his insistence that the Republicans were not included in the "secret" depositions regarding the impeachment (total BS, of course, because any Republicans who were members of the investigating committees were entitled to participate; note that most did not, yet whined about being excluded), and now by his refusal to read the transcripts of the depositions while still believing his "opinions" on the matter have a basis in fact.

Jim Jordan is a complete ass. He rants, raves, deflects, and literally foams at the mouth. He also is a two-faced liar who swishes with the tide just to save his sorry ass. Let's see how the football coaching matter turns out.

Right next to Jordan is Matt Gaetz, a total jerk who disrespects the Rules of Congress. Add Devin Nunes, Mark Meadows and John Kennedy to the list of non-contenders.

If you have been following any of my posts you will know that I have no preference for Dems vs Repubs; my only beef is that Trump should not be your President. If you consider that he represents ALL Americans on the world stage, then you should worry about how you are perceived around the world.

Romney was Governor of my state. I'm not entirely sure why Massachusetts feels the need to import sanctimonious d-bags from other states. We have plenty of home grown d-bags here already. Romney was famous for a few things. Organizing some bullcrap stuff with a Winter Olympics and offshoring every manufacturing job he possibly could. I find it appalling that he profited so handsomely at the expense of the nations economy. Personally, he should be run out of the country along with all those jobs.
Funny how he still manages to find work though.

I know this will come as a shock to you. When Americans vote, they are not thinking what would be good for Canada. Is that what you were thinking when you voted for "Le Blackface"? "This will be great for America!"

I think if one is pragmatic one would agree that any vote for a politician is often a vote for the lesser of two evils. I sometimes wonder if politicians are even necessary. If we could solve the security issues we could simply let people run the country by letting them vote via the internet on every issue. Government employees/staff would handle the actual business of daily operations as they do now, but decision making would be put back into the hands of the people.

John as you know the politicians on both side of the aisle are not there any longer for the good of the country. Any country including Canada. They are mostly there to build up their own party to gain power over the other party.

So under that system, what happens when the leftists elect to gas the Jews?
