I have that, thanks..I am going to call them today.

The camera is a Sony RX10 m4.. new(er) camera all updated software. Yes it supports large memory cards. I put a large one in in case I videoed (I didn't video).

I wish it was 1 photo...198 photos in the hit..but only one afternoon, I sure lot of the pictures would have been deleted by me in the end.. and luckily I was intermittently taking one on my phone. The camera on my Google Pixel 3xl is terrific. I almost didn't bother with a camera on vacation, but I love using a camera.

You state that you downloaded the first half of the photos. Did you then delete from the card the ones you have downloaded? I suggest that you do just to get them out of the way. Then you should be left with just the 'mystery' photos on the card. In Properties how much used space is shown? Is it enough to account for all the missing photos or is it far less, suggesting that the photos don't even exist? I suggest that at that point you right click and select 'Copy'. Save the copy to your desktop or whatever location you choose. Better yet, save two copies. One before you delete any downloaded photos and one after. Now that you have a secure copy of whatever is on the card I suggest you use a program such as Recuva to see if it can get those photos off the card. It will also bring off any photos you may have deleted since you last formatted the card, unless they have been overwritten in the meantime.
It's possible that a glitch in your camera caused the photos to be mis-labeled, making them unreadable. Check in Properties for and see if the file suffice is the same for both groups. It would probably be .JPG. I would also shoot some photos on another card to see if the problem still exists.
If Recuva or Sandisk can't help you I would also recommend calling Sony, since it could be a camera issue.

I have gone through a lot of on-line searched regarding this problem.

I just got home from vacation. I had a 128gb SD sandisk card. when I downloaded the photos the 1st half are fine. the second half say "no valid image" the file number and 123.jpg is there..when i look at properties there is data. I tried opening them in Windows Photos, in Adobe, tried uploading to web..nothing.
adobe says "could not complete your request because a JPEG marker length is too short (the file may be truncated or incomplete). say what???

any ideas? suggestions?

If you have access to a Mac you might try to open them with Preview (Apple's default image viewer). At work I have had occasions where Photoshop would not open an image (with a similar warning about the JPEG marker) and Preview would open them just fine. If you then just save the file from Preview it seems to fix the problem.
If you upload an example file maybe someone here can test this procedure on the file for you.

Are you using Play Home Memories software supplied by Sony?

If the suggestions above do not work you might try cardrecoverypro. was a free download if I recall and it saved my bacon a couple of times. I would save all the other images first. Good luck

First, Where did you buy your SD Card?
Alway make an effort to purchase your Cards from a Reputable Photography Dealer.
Saying that, there are always "Duds", so contact where ever you purchased the 128GB card and ask for a refund on that card, maybe there was a manufacture "Recall" on that Card.
Saving money on discounted SD cards sometimes does not turn out very well.

My camera technically can only use up to a 16Gb card.
I've not tried anything larger, so I don't know how it reacts to a larger than 16Gb card.

I was about to post a similar response.
A few of mine- ditto. Tho they can handle 32gb, if in-camera re-formatted.
I tried 64gb- they seem to work, but don't.
I tried copying- then deleting- the first hundred pictures- no change.

I buy my memory cards from B&H and Best Buy Stores. Walmart and Costco, I would trust. I was surprised that there are refurbished SD cards for sale. As cheap as you can get new SanDisk and Lexar SD cards. I will pass on refurbished.

You might try a program to scan your card for lost files, it may be able to stitch together the files that are missing.

You may have a "fake" SD card. A friend has purchased some from ebay. I have examined them and each has much less memory than what is advertised or shows in properties. They will act just like what you have described. A program called f3 will expose this problem.

Are you using a card reader or directly from the camera via a cable? What happens if you try viewing on a diff camera? Experiment a bit.

No Refurbished SD cards in my Camera Bag, for sure. Buy NEW cards, 16gb or 32gb have really come down in price, then too, if on sale you save more. Keep in a hard side "Secure Card Case" for extra protection from Dirt, dust, moisture, the enemies of SD cards. Buy from Reputable Photography Dealers stores.

It always bothers me when people who answer these posts tell you what you should have done rather than offering a solution. I have a similar problem. I sound what was being truncated was the. Jpg extension. That's why my pictures were not being opened by any foto program that I owned. One gentleman suggested that you make copies of everything on your card. That was good advice. I would work with the copies and not The Originals on the card. Then you can try the various Solutions offered and hopefully one will work. And no way would I delete anyting off the card. Hope this helps.
