Ok, I need advise. I run a small photography business. I have been having problems with this crazy lady copying pictures off of my facebook page (she has never had a session with me and has NO rights to the pictures) and posting them on her facebook wall, making fun of CHILDREN. It is my customers ex, and she is nuts. I have sent her a letter explaining that using photography in a way that isn't authorized by the photographer is copyright infringement and told her to delete them off of her page. She did not, and in fact, posted another one yesterday. How do I pursue her? I am NOT ok with someone taking my hard work, to bully and traumatize little girls just because she's mad that her ex is with someone else!!! What do I do?

One thing you can do that wouldn't require a lawyer is to file a "small claim". It usually costs less than $50. You'll have to check your local instructions on what type of claim you can file.

It might at least send a message. If she doesn't show up on the trial date you will get a default judgement. I'm not sure what happens if she ignores that...maybe someone here can advise.

I've had a number of issues with things people have done on the web. One example was dealing with a person in Canada. I contacted the RCMP and discussed the issue with them. They were more than cordial and willing to look into the matter. However, they requested contacting my local police and filing the issue with them and having them contact RCMP. It has to do with credibility and chain of evidence.

Than being said, I'd, first, if you haven't already, contact her directly keeping the nature of the communication completely unemotional and state only the facts. Keep all of your communication related to this issue for future use. If she fails to respond in a constructive nature, contact Facebook. I understand they have some totalitarian approach to some aspects of the site being used. That failing contact your local police, for reasons stated previous.

This provides the local PD with material showing that you have tried every reasonable way of resolving this issue and leaves them with little room to try to NOT get involved.

The other aspect of this is how much protection of your ownership of photos does Facebook offer you. Whether they feel the photos are being use in a 'fair use' manner, etc. It can get complicated, but stick to it and you may provide future protection for the rest of us who post photos on the web.

Please tell me how to "quit" Farcebook. I can't make my first feeble attempt go away. I sent an e-mail asking how to delete my page and start from scratch with all intentions of designing a new page. No response of course but cannot delete what's there. If I can make it go away I'll never go back. Haven't even tried Twitter and don't intend to. I hope Farcebook tanks.

This Facebook help page has information on how to deactivate or completely delete your account.

Here it is. http://www.facebook.com/help/?page=185698814812082

What happens when my account has a pending deletion request?
Once you have submitted a request to permanently delete your account, no further action is required on your end. Our system delays the deletion process in case you change your mind and no longer want to permanently delete your account. Note that logging in to your account again will undo a pending deletion request.

Once your account is permanently deleted, there is no way to undo this action. You will not be able to reactivate the account or retrieve any of the content or information you have added to it.

Maybe you logged in to test if it was gone and canceled the request?

That would be throwing the baby out with the bathwater in my opinion. Why not stop there when you could delete all your accounts and cancel your internet service?

WHAT? This reply makes no sense. I would love to delete anything I have on Farcebook but cannot. What has that got to do with canceling internet service?

Sorry, Maybe I overreacted in my dissenting opinion. I have found Facebook very useful for finding old classmates and friends that I have lost track of. And to keep up with family across the country. My kids check Facebook more frequently than their email. I have Facebook customized to my preferences and find it useful. Like I find having email useful, like I find being on UHH useful. Like I find having Internet service useful. So in my opinion advising someone to drop Facebook or not get on it is throwing out the good with the bad.

If you want to delete a post from your timeline, move your mouse to the right of your name on an entry and an edit or delete button should appear as in the enclosed photo.

My problem is not being able to edit what I started with. I'll check the help link again. Right now I want to start from scratch if that's possible. I have a few friends that are happy with it and as you said are able to connect with old friends and classmates. Maybe I'll give it another shot.

Sounds like your customer should be infuriated and using their lawyer to stop the X as well. A letter from your lawyer, a letter from your customer's lawyer, and a contact by police should be enough to scare even the weirdest nutcase.

I seriously doubt any government agency you contact will offer to assist you, whether local, state, or federal. Hiring a lawyer for something like this is probably also futile and would cost you quite a bit of money! My suggestion would be to remove whatever photos you have on Facebook that you would consider to be probable "ammunition" for this woman in question and put this behind you. You at least have learned a valuable lesson from the experience, negative though it may have been! ;) ;)

you shouldn't be the one to have to take your stuff down because of an idiot.

block her and go on with your life.

a lot of the suggestions given on this thread has little or no cost...take all those routes. file a complaint at local police dept, call distric attorney,,

do what you can do to expose her and make her miserable life even more miserable.

seems that's what miserable people do..is work hard to make everybody elses life miserable.

i know exactly what i would do and i will keep that to myself....i have taken special care of a few idiots like that. but that is another chapter.

You may need to hire an attorney in this matter. Copyright infringement is serious and you may need to have your attorney sue. Sometimes simply getting a letter from an attorney is enough to scare them off. You should also contact Facebook and report the problem to them. They may take her page down and ban her from Facebook.

It is impossible at present time to delete any facebook page with the idea to create a new page. I've tried to myself in the past and it was a nightmare at least. When you delete your page, everything on the page is held in memory for quite sometime, so if you ever decide to come back to facebook, your content will already be there. This creates the next problem. If you open a new facebook page, with a different name etc, the old facebook page remembers all the information and duplicates it into your new page, meaning all your old content and all your new content are combined. Try sorting through all that mess........I finally gave up and quit facebook altogether.

I have just lately found out something about FB that I do not like. This is even more serious than what you have brought up ablout having pictures stolen.

There is a connection on FB that when you click onto Like ( thumbs up) it allows FB to follow you anywhere you go on the internet in other words they can trace and sell infor to others in order to try and sell you something. Have you been getting all kinds of offers lately from places that you don't even know about, how did they get your information and etc?
My comperter guy told me a few years ago not to go on FB and now even thro I have tried to get off I can not. So now I just don't open ANY FB message that are sent to me.

Just saying. If you want to check it out yourself go to:
How FB is able to follow you on the net.
