Considering what that oil contained, it's probably been outlawed. I remember going to the refreshment stand at a movie theater as a kid and seeing a large can of "Imitation Butter Oil" behind the counter. : )

Lots of choices -

One of the best oils available is coconut oil. However, it's difficult to find in groceries. You may want to try Amazon, or maybe a movie theater supply house.

Try a time machine. That wonderful popcorn doesn't exist anymore. I've tried.

Start with a good brand of popcorn. Use a Whirly Pop stovetop popper and use only coconut oil. The secret ingredient is Flavacol, a flavored salt that makes the popcorn taste as much like the old movie theater popcorn as possible.

https://www.blackjewell.com/store/ has wonderful popcorn. I'm an addict and have been using for years. I like all their popping corn (I buy the kernels, not the microwave ones). My favorite is the Native Mix. I pop it on a gas stove top at the highest heat using peanut oil. Delish!

I loved the popcorn at theaters, you could tell them to give it extra squirts of butter!!
