These ASCII key combinations may not work on all computers or in all programs. If they do, you’re welcome. If not, too bad!
Hold down Alt and enter the number sequence. Then release the Alt key. It will appear when you release the Alt key, (if it's going to). There's a lot more of them but these are the most needed ones.

Here are ALT key codes for typing accents in several languages. The three-digit key combinations for the accents precede each accent. You get the same character also by typing the four-digit codes in parentheses after the letters in the chart. If there is no three-digit code for a character, you have to use the four-digit sequence for that character.

O.K. This is for those that do not have word maybe use Open Office, a lot less expensive.........Mike
Open Office & Libre Office both have the same "Insert Character" functionality as M$Word.
In Windows 10 all ascii characters in all loaded fonts are available with charmap.exe. It should be in the system32 subdirectory.

Weird. I tried some the the symbols (Alt+XXXX) but the only 3 that work are the ALT+0176, 0174, & 0169. (° ® ©). So, anything in the format Alt + 0XXX works.
Must be my keyboard. I have a Logitech Y-R0011. It's a back-lighted keyboard.
Any thoughts?

I just generated a Word doc using the key pad on the right for all Alt + #s and it worked fine. I got bored after 300.
