That's because they aren't native! Florida residents come from all over the country and Latin America.

Perhaps I should have said locals, or residents.

Groan, grrrrr. It takes only 1/2 hour for me to drive to church in the summer. In the winter, it's over an hour. I've never understood why they have to be out on the roads during rush hour, since they're not going to work. But then, our rush hour is from 5-10 AM and 1:30 to 8 PM!

Up here in the north in the summertime there's not much worse then getting behind a camper with Florida tags on a two lane highway. No place to go and all the time in the world to get there.

I agree with you LFingar. You might want to consider having a law like here in Oregon where if a car is not driving the speed limit it is required to pull over to let others pass when more than 3 cars are backed up behind it.
Of course that requires the state Hwy Dept. (out here its called ODOT, for Oregon etc...) when they build 2 lane highways in the sticks to have 'pullouts' every mile or so when the highways don't have good places to pass.
While ODOT is a state bureaucracy they do try to keep the highways in good repair.

That also means an education program for out of state drivers, too.

Observations of Snowbirds
You can tell it's a snowbird when the car is in the left lane w/ right turn signal on.
You know it's snowbird season when yr 20th in line for the red light. In summer you are 1st or 2nd.
More as I see'm!!

Does Oregon enforce that law? Arizona has (had?) a similar law but in the 9 years I lived there I never saw it enforced.

That's the kicker, isn't it? Most states have minimum speed limits also, but, you rarely see them enforced either.

I am not a snowbird, but maybe should try it out this year... NOT going to happen..our rush hour is when there are 4 vehicles going by on our main highway, and that is usually when high school gets out and the kids are driving to the next town for sports and that is maybe 6 cars...we are in a BLIZZARD right now in NE North Dakota..we still have a lot of crops (potatoes, sugar beets, corn, soybeans, canola, sunflowers, wheat) to get off too. not a good year for farmers

Ah, yes. Fall is that time of year here in the Phoenix area when we can enjoy watching the license plates change colors.

Good point Rich.

What really happens is people behind the slow folks are not adverse to educate them on the law requirements by laying on their horn after everybody passes a frequent sign which says "slow cars are required to pull over whenever there are 3 or more cars behind them".

People soon learn to use the pullouts, especially the out-of-staters that drive the big RVs.

Like I said, the highway department needs to construct pullouts or signs won't work.

As for a law, I have no idea if there is a specific law on the books but the signs say there is. The signs are what makes the system work.
Everyone reads the darn things and lays on their horn when someone in front passes the signs and is holding people up behind them.
Even if they are going the speed limit, they need to pull over when they are backing people up.

I don’t know about Arizona because I haven’t spent a lot of time there. It has been my experience in Florida however, that native Floridian drivers are not winning any awards.

Florida in the 60's was a fun place, now it is just an overcrowded mess.......
