What hood are you using? As far as I know all Canon 35mm lenses use tulip hoods. It sounds like you are using the wrong hood for your lens. If, by any chance it screws onto the filter threads, it's definitely the wrong hood.

Interesting, mine all do.
The proper Canon hood on a Canon lens shouldn't have vignetting, provided you're not using filters.
If you have the right hood for your lens and if it is used properly you should have no vignettes.

I think you must have misread my statement. Are you saying that all your Nikon tulip lens hoods will lock into place in the wrong orientation?

Yes! Filters with fat outer rings may project into the field of view causing vignetting. Stacking filters can also. In extreme cases, any filter may.

Still insufficient detail to comment. Although labeled a Canon hood, is it the correct hood for that specific lens? There is no one size fits all or even most, with lens hoods.

If that is the lens hood that came with the lens, you should have no problem. Perhaps you are mounting the hood wrong. Have the short blades of the hood at the top and bottom of the lens then twist so that the long blades are at the top and bottom.

Is the hood mounted properly? Which lens and hood? Is it really the proper hood for that model? I've had problems with the EF 24L where not paying close enough attention and even the correct hood is not installed properly with a shadow of the hood in the frame. Right hood with right lens in the correct position should yield no issues.
Is it possibly another reason and another set of eyes on an example image can help confirm?
Agreed, use the correct Canon hood properly and there will be no problems.
Be sure you have the correct hood for your lens (you weren't very specific).
Current Canon 35mm lenses and their hoods...
- Canon EF 35mm f/1.4L II USM uses Canon hood EW-77B (included w/lens).
- Canon EF 35mm f/2 IS USM uses Canon hood EW-72 (sold separately).
- Canon EF-S 35mm f/2.8 Macro IS STM uses hood ES-27 (incl. w/lens).
- Canon RF 35mm f/1.8 Macro IS STM uses hood EW-52 (sold separately).
Other, discontinued Canon 35mm lenses may use a different hood.

IS IT THE CORRECT HOOD FOR YOUR LENS? The lens part number is right on the hood, if it's a Canon. Are you using a hood for a 50mm lens?
Last post by OP on page one of this thread suggests the problem is solved. How many contributors since that post don't bother to read the all posts?

Last post by the OP on page 1 suggests nothing. The OP doesn't say anywhere that his problem is solved, and he's not bothering to answer the critical question put forth by me and others.....what exact hood and what exact lens is he using?

Jim-Pops looked up the correct lens hood for the C\anon 35mm lens and said it whould be a tulip hood.
warzone, in the next post said "You are right! Sorry for the confusion. Seems I fell into what people say about clothing. Just cause it fits, doesn’t mean you should wear it."
Conclusion: problem solved.
