I thought these were long gone. Hooray for the milkman.

Glass is starting to make a comeback because there is too much plastic out there.

Hope the trend continues bobbyp7714 ... you are absolutely right about the plastic. Thanks for looking & commenting.

In the 40's we had milk truck, vegetable truck, coal truck, junk man wagon(horse driven), Dugan's bread/cake truck, ice truck, knife sharpening truck (grinder), ice cream truck and "seltzer delivery truck". My mom did not drive until after the war, so she rode her bike to do some shopping. My Dad owned and operated a small food market, so we always had lots of food. I began working there at 9 yrs of age.

Good Old Days, right?

I lived too far out in the country for it to be worth the effort for that many entrepreneurs to visit our house ... although the milkman did ... sounds like you grew up in a great environment ... I started working early at local farms but you know what I did ... think I would have preferred your job at the time!!! Thanks for the visit & comment. Appreciated as always.

So did I ... I was heading out to try to capture a sunrise at the ocean & couldn't believe my eyes when I drove by him ... so I had to come back to check it out. Glad I did. Thanks for the comment.

Thanks!! Yes, my home town of Bradley Beach, NJ, was a fabulous place to grow up. Small town - about 1 square mile bordered by the beach/ocean and two lakes on the north and south borders. I still visit it 1 - 2 times a month. Of course it is financially prohibitive to live there now - way to rich for my blood.

My father was a milkman for many years. I have great memories of those times as I loved milk from glass bottles. We even had a milk dispenser in our home for a while like those used at the time in malt shops and hamburger joints. This was in the sixties.

It's funny ... I always thought of NJ as a crowded & tough place to be ... but before I retired, I worked for a company that bought a company down on the Jersey shore ... & I realized while it is more crowded than most places in NH & VT, it was a beautiful place to live. But as you suggest ... quite expensive to live there. I guess all states have some nice places to live.

Thanks kpmac ... I agree with you about milk from a bottle ... but, sadly the age of the milkman was gone by the 60's around where I lived at the time. I suspect your Dad was a popular guy if he was anything like the milkman we had. Ours was almost a friend to the neighborhood ... everyone loved him. Thanks for the comment.

Very good, Frank, haven't seen any of those home milk delivery trucks since the 50s.

Neither had I Earnest ... as I noted earlier, I was rushing to the shore to try to get some sunrise photos (& running a bit late) ... but when I saw the milk truck, I just had to stop. Unfortunately, at the time, I kept thinking it was getting late, so I rushed the shots in order to get to the beach. When I got home to PP, I was disappointed that I didn't take more time. But it did bring back some good memories.

Haven't seen one in many years. My husband's uncle was a MM in our county for many years and I believe was still delivering milk in the early 70's.

Wow!!! That's much later than anything I ever saw ... '50's & done in my neck of the woods. I liked the idea of the milk coming with the cream at the top ... & always with a smile & good morning greeting. Hoping there might be more of this however I suspect the margins would be tight. Thanks for the visit & comment. Always appreciated.

Wow Joe ... hope you were smart enough while making those big bucks, to have saved them!!!! Don't know when that was, but $3 a day was pretty good pay back in the day for me. Thanks for the comment.

as a kid I used to watch in amazement as the milkman's horse used to plod along the street, anticipating his next delivery, they worked

as a perfect team and it continued at the end of his round when the horse used to take it's inebriated owner back home, can you be prosecuted

for being drunk in charge of a horse?............Probably not in those more pragmatic days
