Great spot. Last there about 30 years ago. Looks like a few things have changed. I think your pictures have motivated me to get there again - sometime soon, maybe next summer.

Ahhh brings back memories. I worked two summers at Mackinac Island (Chippewa Hotel) 1970 and 1971. Good photos.

Very nice set of photos of one of my favorite places. Can do much in one long day, but best to spend two if you can. No condos or over-development and a very interesting history (fur-trading center, medical discovery, battle in the War of 1812, etc.). Grand Hotel is an experience all it's own. Not cheap by any means, but price includes fantastic meals and a step back to an elegant time.

Mackinac Island also has a history during prohibition. Booze from Canada was brought in by boat and staged there, then sold and shipped to markets in Michigan and elsewhere. Being an island it was easy to spot Federal agents arriving by boat and hide the evidence.
As a bartender at the Chippewa Hotel in 1970 and 1971 customers who lived during prohibition told interesting tales about the bootleggers.

Good job. I lived in Michigan for 18 years and had never visited there, but I did get to Mackinack Island in 2005. A very pretty plaace (good fudge, too!).
