I just bought a Canon 80D (mostly because I heard all the discussion here!) I already had a Canon 70D.

Are the two batteries interchangeable?

70D uses LP-E6
80D uses LP-E6N

The Canon 80D manual will specify what model of battery is recommended by the manufacturer.

They are capable, but you should be able to get more shots from the LP-E6N.

I had started to follow your suggestion but then received another reply which made it unnecessary to continue. Did I somehow hurt your feelings, Ralph in the WI north woods?

Thanks, mwsilvers. I would use the older one only for a backup, but now I won't need to buy another of the newer ones.

There's little difference between them, assuming your older battery still has good recharge performance. Not always the case. The LP-E6 is rated for 1800 mAh while the LP-E6N is rated for 1865 mAh. I doubt that you would see much difference in battery life, although, as already stated, you will get a few more shots from the LP-E6N. If it was me, I would use the older one all I could to get the most life out of it before replacing it with an LP-E6N.

Thanks. I’m planning on using one for a backup, not sure which one yet.

In this case I don't think the manual has the best answer.
