Use your built in Clear Image Zoom for up to 2X equivalent focal length FOV and NOT loose any pixels. But, make sure you maximize your native IQ of your lenses - like lower ISO, no motion blur, proper exposure, stop the lens aperture down a bit - well, you get the idea ! ? - works BETTER than extenders !
imagemeister,

I believe you are right! I accidentally discovered this feature on my a6000 a few months ago. I admit that I haven't studied how to master this feature yet, but plan to.

Good resources, thanks for posting.

Here's a link to a fairly in-depth exploration of using the A6X00 lineup for surfer photography (from the perspective of an amateur photographer).

Sony makes a 1.4X and a 2x teleconverter. Neither is compatible with your lenses. They are intended for their FE long zooms such as the 100-400

And the GM 70-200 f2.8 and the G 200-600.

You have to be shooting JPEG and the CIZ is buried - DEEP - in the menus !

I shot surfers in Maui with your 55-210 with clear image zoom. I estimate the shots were from at least 200 yards away and was very satisfied with my results. Give it a try I strongly suggest.

Have you used your a6000 Clear Image Zoom capabilities? You can double your lens range via this tool. It may be better than a teleconverter

Thanks so much for your suggestion. Just read up on it in my David Busch guide to Sony, will definitely be doing some experimenting in the week ahead. I tend to shoot RAW and use Optical Zoom only but that may change going forward. Really appreciate this tip.

That's so encouraging. I may have to make a trip to the beach to give it a go. Really appreciate hearing from you. Happy shooting.

Yup, just read up on it in my guide book. Have now set one of the Custom Function buttons to zoom so I don't have to flip through all the menu options when I'm out and about. Looking forward to trying it out. Happy shooting.

This is great stuff, thank you so much for sharing. I'm looking forward to experimenting and keeping my money in my pocket as far as the teleconverter option goes. Happy shooting. Love this community.

Most internet "experts" - David Bush included - tend to downplay the significance of CIZ

Do not be swayed - judge for yourself !! .....It is a game changer for most of us willing to shoot JPEG ! .....along with sweep panorama and multi-exposure HDR

Save your money for a better lens instead of wasting it on a TC. Zooms are not good candidates for TCs.

Got it, thanks for sharing your thoughts.

Seriously, you will not get good results using a extender on those lenses. Your better off getting a longer lens. Seriously.

I will definitely be doing some experimentation. I like the idea, now to see what the results look like.
