As a fellow owner, check how you have the focus set up, what are you telling the camera to focus on, face, center, etc. Look at the bad pictures to see if there is something in focus and why did the camera pick that to focus on.

I should have said "focus priority release". Bottom of page 4 Custom settings.

Why sadly? As I said previously, the Sony Hybrid focus system is self correcting so AF Micro Adjust is redundant with an E-Mount lens. It is however available for A-Mount lenses with the LA-EA4 adapter.

the picture of the girl seems to be focused on the shoulder. I would check your focus settings for where the focus is set.

I have the a7 I and as I understand it until much later in the series like the a7r4 model they only have one focus system instead of the two that dslr top end cameras have so shooting anything in motion or wanting rapid focus is unlikely. What I do when I need to shoot better focus on moving things is select center point focus instead of broadly across the whole sensor and continuous shooting and can manage some good images that way. However if I want moving photos I use my nikon d4 which with two focus systems is far superior at 11 fps. Up until latest models and I have not shot them I am pretty sure these are not sport photographer type cameras because of the limited focus systems built into them. I can't remember the exact name of the two systems used in top end dslrs but they can be put into the range finders if the camera makers want to. Canon and Nikon have not as far as I know in their rangefinders because it would compete with their top end dslr's which they want to harvest a while longer tho no one is buying those cameras much anymore due to cost and the feature creep upward on the rangefinders. I would like to try an a7rIV but it is out of any budget I have now as I have a suite of very workable cameras now as it is.
this is just my rough understanding of it all.
