I didn't have a clue what this is, but I think I found a match in one of my sources. It appears to be a fragaria-possibly a vesca. Downloading is recommended.

Please note..... I'll be away for a few days as from today & will not have computer access, so I apologize for not being able to thank you for your comments during that period. Back soon. Earl.

Interesting. I think that is one of our North American wild strawberries. Fragaria vesca has seeds that protrude from the surface, while the more common Fragaria virginiana has seeds that are sunken into the surface of the fruit. Also on Fragaria vesca the terminal tooth of the leaflets equals or exceeds the adjacent pair of lateral teeth in length, while on Fragaria virginiana it is shorter than the adjacent teeth.

Based on that I think you are correct - you have Fragaria vesca, or "Woodland strawberry."

Nice shot Earl. Looks like strawberries in the unripe stage.

Earl, great photo and no need to apologize. I am not able to log on every day like I used to and for that reason is why you do not need to.
