I was fortunate to visit The Great Wall last year and what impressed me the most was the number of elderly and disabled Chinese people who were there. It was obvious how important this amazing structure is in Chinese history and culture.
There are several entry points to The Great Wall and at ours it was a bit disturbing to find a Burger King, Subway, and a slew of T-shirt and trinket shops just inside the entrance. But I guess it’s to be expected and, yes, I did buy a few souvenirs😊

Thanks Dannj! When you climbed the Wall you have to be hungry....
I got some souvenirs as well...

I visited an unrestored portion of the Great Wall fourteen years ago. There were only the twelve people in my tour group there. It is truly an awesome structure, especially when viewed without hordes of tourists and vendors.

Wow...Nice picture berchman! When you go up further, the number of tourists will be diminished....But it is a hard climb....

I really enjoy your work and narrative. I think it was ironic the Kubla Kan just went around the wall rather than battle his was into China. I travel every year to The Peoples Republic of China to spend tyme with my in laws and have never viewed the Great Wall...the air pollution is greatly improving from year to year...thank you for sharing.

After I went nuts buying expensive stuff on trips to India and Turkey, I promised myself no more buying on trips and I’ve kept that promise even though I had to grit my teeth not to buy a gorgeous silk rug in China.

Thanks so much George II! Pollution is a huge problem there no doubt about it. You should go there some times and it is not too far from Beijing....I live in Lawrenceville for a while now.
