A desktop is expandable/easily user-modifiable

A laptop can be picked up and used off-your-desk..sitting on the sofa, taking a trip, etc.

A desktop can have as large a display as you want to buy.

You can use a full-size desktop keyboard with a laptop on your desk.

Some laptops have port-replicators/docks that make it very easy to move the computer off your desk and put it back with all connections.

One could go on and on comparing desktops and laptops. What do YOU want?

Interesting response.
The original question was "How many of you use a laptop as your main computer?".

Desktops are typically faster and have more storage.
I use both. Desktop in the office, laptop in the family room and vacations by car.
It depends on what floats your boat.

There was a time when desktop computers were faster but that time is long gone. Today's machines are really only limited by power requirements and battery charge life. The microprocessors used in today's laptops are as powerful as those used in desktop machines. The real difference between them today is the need to run peripherals like external storage, input devices and printers, all things that laptop computers are also capable of doing.
I personally have not owned a desktop computer in many years. I plug my laptop into its dock and it becomes a desktop.

It would be nice if this forum had the ability to create polls, as I've seen on other sites. Anyway, here's my question. How many of you use a laptop as your main computer? I began with desktops, and although I also have laptops, it's hard for me to take a laptop seriously. It's the same with cameras. Unless it's a big, heavy DSLR, I can't take it seriously. I know I'm wrong on both counts, but since I began with the big stuff, that's what I tend to use.

So - desktop or laptop?

I use a MacPro 15 inch laptop as my only computer. It does everything I want it to do. I have never had a virus since I had it.

Both

But I use my desktop for 99% of my pictures and only use the laptop for when I travel. That said, I hardly ever use the Laptop for editing pictures because when I travel I'm usually too tired after a day of shooting.

I have a desktop which I built, and, because of my age, I have no use for a laptop although I have one in the closet.

Definitely Desktop. More powerful, faster and easier to fix. I do use a laptop when I'm away from home, but that's mostly for backup storage.

I have, and use, both a Desktop and Laptop on a daily basis. If I'm doing PP work, it's definitely on the desktop (with dual 27" 5k screens). Email and other general business type work is most always on the laptop. My desktop, an iMac Pro, is just some much more powerful and built to be fast at PP. The desktop also has tons of storage directly available. Best of luck.

The original poster said "It's hard to take laptops seriously". That's a pretty silly general statement. I pointed out SOME of the pluses of laptops, along with pluses for desktops, as others have been doing.

What's YOUR concern?

21” iMac, 15” MacBook Pro. MacBook goes everywhere with me, my primary user.
