Blue Legs!

A little more than an inch and a half long, he’s commonly called a Jewel Beetle or less often, a Blue-legged Wood Borer and less often still, Lampetis webbii. Photographed in central Arizona at about 3500 feet in oak-juniper scrub. Nikon D-810, AF Micro Nikkor 200mm f4.

I spend a lot of time outdoors hereabouts and lots more before I got here fifteen years ago --prior to yesterday, I had never seen this beetle anywhere. However, without any particular comment, a local entomologist ID'd him right away. So exciting as he was to me at the moment, he's apparently not remarkably rare.
