Sold a camera using the UHH sale listing. The buyer received the camera noted by USPS. Expected payment through PayPal as discussed. Buyer didn't acknowledge receiving the camera and didn't respond when I asked him/her how it was going. This is day 4 after receipt of camera and I've heard nothing nor any posting to PayPal. Any advice? IF I don't hear something by Monday I'll publish his name, address, and phone number so no one else will have this problem.

It's supposed to work the other way around: first they pay, then you send.

Absolutely!!! I’ve bought several items on UHH and I always sent payment and the seller confirmed before the seller shipped.

You sent the camera before they made the transaction through Paypal? Why?

One or the other has to go first, either I trust him or he trusts me. I've sold on UHH before without any problems so did it this way again. Since there is no neutral intermediary, it's done on trust. I may have lost, we'll see. But next time I will see the money first.

Good plan. And thank you. But Try a PM to the buyer before doing that?

Try contacting PayPal Customer Service problem resolution to see if they might be helpful. They have helped me deal with recalcitrant buyers and sellers in the past.

Eazy on the OP. If someone is using our forum to fraud. We need to be aware. As the OP say it is based on trust. However I do agree with the responders, Trust, but verify....

Not everyone is as honest as you are. In transactions that involve sale of goods, you ALWAYS verify payment has been received and it is added to your account before shipping anything. This will minimize but not completely eliminate fraud. I always send using a carrier that will provide confirmation of receipt with a real human signing for it. USPS will only confirm delivery, not receipt, unless you pay extra for signature.

Always proceed as if the recipient is a crook - I hate to be so cynical, but that's life. Assume that the buyer is trying to scam you and take the precautions you need to take to prevent scams.

Unless you are lucky and the buyer stops ghosting you, regarding this as a lesson may be the only value left for you. Hopefully it wasn't a large sum of money.

I agree that the OP did not do anything wrong. Who is to say that the buyer or the seller is honest. One has to trust the other. One thing I do is to check when the person that I am dealing with joined the forum. If a short time, then I get the money first. I have done deals where we swapped something and we each sent the goods at the same time. Worked just fine. I also agree that if the buyer scams the seller or visa versa, post the offending party so the rest of us know who to watch out for.

I think you should have made sure you had the money in your account, THEN shipped the camera to the buyer.
You may be able to get some assistance from PayPal, maybe they can help.

Except that doing the Paypal transaction first gets you your money and the buyer some protection through Paypal if things are not as he expected. If you had done it that way, you wouldn't be out a camera. That is the whole reason people use Paypal, for secure and safe online purchases. You don't even know whether this person ever had a Paypal account and if he doesn't, they are not going to help you..

You should also notify UHH Admin. They probably won't be able to help you get your money, but they would be alerted that someone did something like that.

A few years ago, a colleague of mine spent part of the morning wrapping a package for shipping; he told me that he had sold it the previous night on eBay and expected to receive payment any minute, so he needed to have it ready to go. I told him that was not usual protocol - shipment is usually within a day or two of payment, but not immediately; when he asked "How many things have you sold over eBay?", I had to confess that I have never sold anything there, but I had a 'feedback' score of over 500 as a buyer. Frankly, I have never heard of a seller shipping before payment - even he waited for payment - you were very trusting. I hope things work out for both of you.

The whole point behind PayPal is that you (seller) sends an invoice to buyer. Then buyer pays invoice. Then seller sends item. Buyer is protected by PayPal I’d item not received. Has some sort of reimbursement feature that’s I’ve never had to use.
