Would that be akin to having a camera do a lousy job on a couple of images and then switching brands?

Yes, look at the occasional complaint about B&H despite all of us who have experienced only good. “Goodness is next to Godliness, but perfection is next to impossible”.

I too have used Bay Photo and have been very, very pleased with them. Not sure what transpired in the one bad comment above, but when I had a small problem (the photos got bent in the shipping), they redid the order no questions asked. So I too would recommend them. I also have used Costco and been happy with them. However my understanding is that they are closing down the photo departments in many of their stores.

I use The Dark Room in San Clemente, CA.

I too, use the darkroom.com and have had a good experience. I have just started using them, so I don’t have extensive experience.

From their website, you can print a post paid label to send your order. When they return your negatives, a post paid mailer is included.

Do not, repeat do not, send your carefully created images to Bay Photo Imaging in Santa Cruz, CA. I just had one of the worst experiences ever with an order for two 5x7” prints from Bay. The order was never printed and it was just ten days completely wasted.

I know a local pro who swears by Bay. I have never used them so I can’t say for sure. But, every business has an occasional run in with a customer. Sometimes it’s the customers fault and sometimes it’s the businesses fault. So I would check with other Bay customers about their experience.

One thing I can say though, is that Bay only does output. They do not develop film. So if you are looking for a film processor, you need to find someplace else.

I use Nations Photo Lab for my big prints 24X36 they are located back east, but their prices are very good and they have sales all the time--the results are always outstanding!

Sorry, Willy old boy, you weren’t on the phone with them constantly over ten days. You weren’t lied to repeatedly about what they were able to do and when they would do it. And, in the end, another branch of their fine customer non-service team surfaced to say they never should have taken the assignment. Don’t know about you, pal, but I’ve got better uses for my time. I’m trying to mount two exhibitions and need to know whether this image will be included. If they can’t handle it, they should have just said so early on. It’s not their skills I’m doubting, it’s their service reputation and the capability of their senior management. 👎🏻👎🏻
Sorry, Willy old boy, you weren’t on the phone wit... (show quote)

Ralph, it sounds to me that this may have been some kind of special order you placed? Was that the case?

In early August I did a post where I talked about a private tour I did of Bay Photos headquarters and lab in Santa Cruz, CA. Their lab is “100,000” square feet. 400+ employees. State of the art equipment.

I’ve been using them for years and have always been impressed with the quality of their products and service.

Sorry to hear of your bad experience. Another lab that I use is MPIX, and also White Wall, both are great. Good luck.

WWCC, White House Custom Color. Amazing professional lab with great prices (especially if you can wait for one of the many sales) and perfect color correction. I do not sell my photos but I now have many large prints. I have never had an issue with them. Google the lab.

Costco has been mentioned on here numerous times......I finally tried them...... What I paid for ($15) at the local lab, I got from Costco for $3.99 (12x18 glossy).. guess who's getting my business from now on......

I use our local Costco for quick stuff, have developed a great relationship with them there. For my high end stuff, no other place but Bay Photo. I know I saw the guy up top who had issues. Anytime a company has that many clients things are bound to happen. I have been using them for almost 10 years, not one single problem.

COSTCO!
I've used Costco for years. They mail directly to my clients. I have never had an issue, except for the first order I placed. The color was off. I downloaded the color profiles from their website and have not had a problem since. They also reprinted the messed up ones for free.

Do you have a link for the profiles? I only see a third party site for poster printing profiles.

Large format prints, specialty needs, and processing my medium format film, I use Photo Supply (great lab). Regular stuff still goes to Costco.

Our local Lab in town just closed their door's due to retirement. Any suggestion on to where I should get my photo's printed? I know I can use Walgreens in a pinch, just want to keep the professional I had before.

www.mpixpro.com is outstanding

Some time ago I saw a comparo done by Chelsea Northrup. Same digital image sent to several labs. Best result in her opine was Mpix. I’m planning to try them next.
