Great comment. IF that is indeed what he is talking about it MIGHT clear up some questions. But my granddaughters are 2 and 12. I will continue taking photos of them as I desire rather than have someone tell me to use a photojournalism style. It would help if the OP had written more clearly.

Street photography would be a better mindset...
Photojournalism is a dedicated and multi faceted profession, so using that idea to shoot what should be more casual, is off in direction, and would be tough on the kids.
