These are the first shots with a Tamron SP 45 1.8 on a Canon 5D iv. Does anyone have any idea what is causing the ring? It disappears at 2.8, but is there from 1.8 to 2.8. Same result with a B&W UV filter which was removed for the enclosed photos. I've never gotten anything like this with any other lens. Is lens defective or am I doing something wrong? Same result outside as inside. Thanks in advance for any solutions.

Call or Chat with a product specialist at B & H. See what they say. They are open.

I just read this review on B&H website about this lens:

Check serial numbers
ByBrian
I returned my first 45mm because of a black ring that was visible at f 1.8 up to f 2.8. Received a replacement lens and the same thing happened. Contacted Tamron and found that the serial number on my lens was not updated to work properly with a Canon 5D Mark IV. There is a list of serial numbers on the Tamron that have the firmware update. Sending my lens to Tamron for the update and will review the lens when I get it back.

I can only apply logic and engineering common sense, as I don’t know this lens. It appears to have been assembled with one or more lens elements either in a (a) pre-finished or (b) ship to assembly state. If I had to guess, I’d go with (b); someone inadvertently forgot to remove all of the surround packing and protective film on one lens element, when they assembled the lens? That would explain why there’s a perfectly focused ring around the edge of the picture, that can only be seen at the lowest f numbers.

Sounds like a good possibility of what happened.

It has to make you wonder though how it could have passed Quality Control before being shipped.

If you have lens optimization and peripheral illumination active in your menu, deactivate them. and try. I once had a Sigma macro that was not compatible with those options.

I turned off the peripheral illumination and that corrected the problem. Thank you all so much!!! I think I will still contact Tamron about a firmware update.

Looks like it might be a better plan rather than returning the lens without trying something first.

Tamron is great. You have a six year warranty if it’s a USA lens (not gray market). Let them update the firmware in the lens. Meanwhile, use the workaround if you use the lens before sending it in.

This sure is a need affect. Please let me know what’s causing it? As I’d like to be able to use it in music videos.

Pauldh did in fact solve my problem. So thank you Pauldh and everyone else who replied to my problem. I am still going to contact Tamron and see what they say. It's an amazing website when someone in Melbourne can help someone in California in a matter of minutes. Technology is so amazing when it works!!!

I had the same problem with my 5D MkIV when I attached an EF-S lens. Make sure the lens isn't designed for a Canon crop sensor camera.

Read the previous posts.
1) It was determined that it is a full frame lens.
2) The OP already solved the problem with the help of another UHH member.
