I love how you did close ups like this. Only 1 thing that I would do differently next time is to get the whole cake in the shot. Good Work!

I like the DOF: provides just enough background to suggest the setting but not distract from the subject. I agree about including all of the subject in the frame, cake and the last flower. I am not sure the mood you were wanting to suggest but unless you were intentionally wanting a warm feel to the cake photo you adjust the white balance to get the color better balanced. I did a quick adjustment just for comparison.
