I learned to scream my head off so they'd think they killing me. I also learned to not "smart talk" or "back sass". That got a slap across the face. Unfortunately by the time I was young man trying to make it in the world I wouldn't stand up for myself even when I had done nothing wrong. I still remember taking the blame for something at work when it was a co-worker at fault. It took me at least ten years to gradually come around to thinking it was okay to say. 'it wasn't me. I didn't do it.' At least I didn't do the same to my own kid. She has no problem telling me I'm full of it. ;0)
