This image took me hours to set up and shoot. I started by stacking the s'more just to see how it would look, but it kept falling over. Finally I found out that if I melted the marshmallows a little they make great glue. Then...marshmallows on fire...changing light conditions, etc. But I finally got what I think is ok but I know it could be better. I think I've looked at it too much. Any help and criticism on the photo or camera settings would be appreciated. Thanks!

Did you eat it afterward?

Very unique. We don’t make s’mores like that in Indiana. Is that a chocolate chip cookie on the bottom? Also, do I see some strawberry jam in there too? Very interesting! Looks delicious! Too big to fit into my big mouth, too! Hahaha!
By the time I was done with it, it was not something anyone would want to eat. I had touched it, moved it, re-stacked it, stretched the marshmallows, took a lighter to it. It is still standing on my dining room table. Possibly played with by the cats at this point. It will go in the trash. lol

I don't eat them like this, either! I just threw the cookie in there for fun, and the jam because I thought it needed some color. Normally I'm boring and just make them the normal way but it seemed like I needed something more interesting for photographic purposes! Thanks for the comments!
To be candid, it does not look appetizing.
For some reason, after looking at this one shot, I wanted some more.

Agree. I wouldn’t want to eat that.
Desserts should be pictured as inviting, cheerful etc. This one looks almost sinister. Just my opinion, of course.
I don't remember who , but there is a story about a photographer being told (as a means of getting rid of him) "Bring me a photo of good looking cooked spinach". (This was in the days before color film.) He went a way and did that. When he returned, photo in hand, he was hired on the spot.

I don't think anyone would hire me based on that photo. :) But I did just win my photography course weekend challenge with it. Decided to do a dark food photography session to challenge myself. I like to do new things to get out of a rut. Thanks for looking.
For food photography, it just seems like the background should be food related. How about an out of focus box of graham crackers or the marshmallow bag? Even a checkered table cloth. all out of focus of course, because the smore is the subject. It just doesn't look food-like with a black curtain background. Check out food photos in magazines and look at what they do to make it appetizing. My objective would be to make it look like an ad or a recipe photo in a magazine. Just my thoughts. However, what a fun project!!

I agree. I was going to have a campfire in the background but it was 90 degrees outside so I decided against it! But I could have used something else. I'll be playing around more with food photography since I found it pretty fun. I just wish I liked to cook!
Did you save some for me???? Looks extremely edible in the download
