A couple of years ago, I tried some film simulation PS plug-ins. I didn't see anything in my photos that loooked even vaguely film-like, so I decided, it's what it is, just shoot digital and be happy.

The answer is staring you right in the lens! Buy one of the Fujifilm cameras.

The new ones are quite amazing and not to be ignored.

I have liked Fugi for years-their lenses are great! Thats part of the magic-even their 18 55 lens-I bought an x 30 camera and am amazed at the camera using a small sensor-their macro mode is fantastic-used at about 275.00 a steal!So sharp! Mirrorless xe2 is tops great software-

Thanks to all for ideas and comments. I will pursue some of the "simulations" and see how well they work. But I hear several saying, 'just get the Fujifilm camera." Perhaps in time, but right now, financially not viable.

I mostly shoot with Sony cameras presently. In the past, Nikon, then Olympus. And some of the Olympus lenses work very nicely with adapters on Sony. But back in the days of film, I loved Fujifilm's different films, especially Velvia. I knew that Fujifilm has incorporated film emulations in their own digital cameras, which makes it appealing to consider those wonderful boxes, but, really, there is no way I am going to switch just for those emulations. And then it dawned on my wee brain that maybe there are emulations available to incorporate into the Sony cameras. I went onto a Fujifilm discussion site, and, yes, there are emulations available!! Wow! But when I tried to download them, they were no longer available; the dates on the original posts were from 2015, so there are no doubt several reasons that they might have disappeared. But does anyone know where such emulations might be obtained? I have programmed just enough in the past to know that I have no desire to wade into that sea of complexities. Rather, I just want to use the emulations.

Any help would be appreciated.

Another thought the occurred to me was possibly finding someone with a Fujifilm camera and an X-rite Color Passport who can create a camera profile in Lightroom for you or rent the necessary products and create on yourself. This, I believe, would create a baseline from which you could use other develop settings to achieve the look you desire. I know there are various presets already available such as those found on Petapixel, https://petapixel.com/2016/08/12/free-collection-custom-lightroom-presets-fuji-ambassador/, or Thomas Fitzgerald's, https://blog.thomasfitzgeraldphotography.com/blog/new-fuji-colour-profile-presets-for-lightroom, websites. As Thomas Fitgerald mentions, Adobe already provides Fujifilm emulations. Just thinking this out and geeking out a bit...

What is so special about the Fuji Film "look";
the ideal for me was always film as neutral as possible.
